Oct. 2, 2024: Elizabeth "Liz" Cowan Moran, long time resident of Bronxville, New York, died on September 19, 2024. Liz was 92 years old.

Born in 1932 in Manhattan, she was the daughter of Marjorie and Harding Cowan. Liz attended The Sacred Heart School in Greenwich, CT and Barnard College.

Liz married John "Jack" Moran in 1952. They moved to Bronxville, NY where they raised three sons and a daughter.  Liz and Jack led an active life together and with their children, socializing with a large circle of lifelong friends in New York, skiing at Stratton Mountain in Vermont, and spending summers at the Long Island beach communities of Amagansett and Wainscott.

Liz worked for many years as a paralegal with Sherman and Sterling, in both their Wall Street and Rockefeller center offices.

With Jack, she traveled extensively. She was a voracious reader and music lover, and for many years attended the New York Philharmonic Friday series of concerts at Lincoln center.

Liz was also a life-long tennis player, having learned the game from her father during summers spent in Sea Girt, NJ. She also played and enjoyed platform tennis which she picked up after joining the Bronxville Field Club.

Diagnosed with leukemia at 87, she bravely battled the disease for the last five years of her life. She credited her successful treatment to a trial drug funded by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

On January 24 of last year Liz was pre-deceased by Jack, her husband of 70 years. She is survived by her children, John (wife Alexandra) of Fairfield, CT, David of Newport, VT, Elizabeth “Lissa” Moran Barry of Manhattan and Douglas (wife Josefina) of Brooklyn.

Liz was a devoted grandmother and leaves behind her six grandchildren, Robin and Griffin Moran (wife Jenny Kramer,) Kevin and Aidan Moran, Timothy (wife Meredith) and Matthew Barry. In addition she was a proud great grandmother to Ryan and Cassidy Moran and wonderful aunt to many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or Jansen Hospice in White Plains, NY.

As they'd have wanted, a memorial gathering for both Liz and Jack will be held Saturday, October 5 2024, from 1:00 to 3:00 at Siwanoy Country Club in Bronxville.
