April 23, 2025: Have you noticed the beautiful tulips and daffodils in the Village of Bronxville?

The Bronxville Beautification Council ("BBC") is the organization that we can thank!

The BBC, which was established in 1982, is committed to enhancing and maintaining "the natural and man-made beauty of the village of Bronxville, with an emphasis on the downtown business district."

Valerio Otto, President of the BBC said, "Spring is such a beautiful time of year in Bronxville and it's always so revitalizing to see the new bursts of color throughout town. Every fall, our team and our partner, Gedney Farms, plant daffodil and tulip bulbs that blossom in early spring."

She also noted that the BBC is adding more pollinators and perennials to its plantings including Montauk daisies and juniper. Otto said, "this will add to a more naturalized look of our plantings, supports our natural environment, and will prove to be more cost effective longer term."

Some of the areas in the Village that the BBC beautified include:

-The traffic circle at Sagamore and Pondfield Roads which has Montauk daisies, which will bloom in late summer, as well as juniper and natural boulders. This project was possible thanks to the generous contribution by Rosemary and Richard Vietor, made through The Acorn Foundation.

-The traffic triangle on Kensington and Sagamore Roads has a native redbud tree as well as various perennials. These were planted in memory of beloved and lifelong resident, Rebecca Underhill. This initiative was spearheaded and funded by Judy Foley, BBC volunteer Tara Smith Tyberg, as well as fifteen other donors. More Montauk daisies and perennials were added and arranged, donated by Spencer Pingel of La Casa Bronxville.

-1,500 new daffodil bulbs were planted on the northeast hill by the railroad banks which are currently in full bloom.  These were thanks to a generous contribution from Dr. Jessica Bonifate.

-More native perennials and pollinators are being added to the large rectangular planters along the railroad line, thanks to the work and contribution of longtime BBC volunteer, Hershell George. This will add natural interest throughout the spring, summer and fall months.

The BBC is fully funded by donations from the Bronxville community.  It holds an annual appeal drive and co-hosts and annual garden party in partnership with a local resident.  This year's Garden Party Benefit will be on Saturday, June 7, 5-7pm. Tickets are available for purchase at https://bronxvillebeautificationcouncil.org/

Otto also noted that the village's Department of Public Works is extremely supportive of the BBC's efforts and devotes resources to ensuring our plantings are well watered and cared for during the hot summer months.

"All of this is possible thanks to our residents who care so deeply about our community and understand what it takes to maintain our village's unique appeal," said Otto.
