March 25, 2026: Bronxville is putting down new roots—literally. The Village is currently rolling out its Right-of-Way (ROW) Tree Planting Program, an initiative designed to restore and strengthen the community's tree canopy.
The program is a collaborative effort between the Village and the Bronxville Historical Conservancy, which contributed $75,000 in matching funds to support the project. According to Mayor Marvin, the initiative offers residents an opportunity to make a lasting investment in the community's landscape and environmental health.
"Nothing has more lasting value to a community than its tree stock," said Marvin in a recent column in MyhometownBronxville. She further explained, "The benefits of trees are so multifaceted: aesthetic appeal, cooling properties, improvement of air quality, reduction of energy use and atmospheric carbon dioxide, habitat for wildlife, reduction of soil erosion and excess runoff, water absorption, barrier to noise, a natural screener, food source, and a source of lumber and pulp."
The Right-of-Way is defined as "the strip of land owned by the Village that runs alongside public streets. It typically includes the sidewalk and approximately 10–13 feet of land between the curb and private property, though the exact width varies by location."
Two options are available: a Subsidy Option, where the Village covers up to 50% of the cost of the tree and installation, and a Self-Funded Option for residents who wish to contribute fully. All applications are reviewed by Village staff to ensure appropriate tree species and siting. Certified vendors professionally install approved trees.
Residents interested in participating can find application details and program guidelines on the Village's official website.
As spring approaches, the program promises to foster both shade and civic pride—an invitation for every Bronxville neighbor to help shape a greener future for the generations to come.
