Junior League of Bronxville: Feeding the Frontlines

Apr. 15, 2020: On March 21, 2020, the Junior League of Bronxville (JLB) launched Feeding The Frontlines to provide meals to local first responders helping to fight the coronavirus pandemic that is gripping our community along with much of the world.
As of April 7 (less than three weeks later), over 200 donors have contributed more than $26,000. This has allowed the JLB to partner with more than 16 local restaurants to provide over 1,500 meals to 21 organizations on the front lines.
As Outreach VP Amy Brown stated, "Feeding The Frontlines started as a simple idea, but with the support of the amazing women of the JLB, it has become a powerful way for the community to come together in support of local restaurants and to honor our frontline heroes."
A core committee of six JLB leadership team members has worked tirelessly with 17 other active JLB members to coordinate the purchase of meals from local restaurants for delivery to local hospitals, including NY Presbyterian/Lawrence, Montefiore, St. Joseph's, and St. John's Riverside.
They have also provided meals to the Bronxville, Tuckahoe, and Eastchester police departments, to EVAC, as well as to Value Drugs and Grassy Sprain Pharmacy. They have fed our local DPWs, Fire Departments, and other charitable organizations, such as Feeding Westchester and Westhab Volunteers.
A full list of the organizations served, and the participating restaurants is provided below.
This week, Feeding The Frontlines is launching a new team challenge, where local groups (PTAs, affiliation groups, neighborhood associations, etc.) can raise additional funds for Feeding The Frontlines.
The teams can choose their frontline hero and local restaurant to support, and the JLB will coordinate to make it happen.

As JLB president Deirdre Doheny stated, "if there is any silver lining to this dark COVID cloud hanging over all of us, it is having an opportunity to offer a 'thank you' to the heroes around us and to support the men and women who run the local restaurants we love."

Bronxville Beautification Council
Organized in 1982, the Bronxville Beautification Council (BBC) is a not-for-profit organization administered by a volunteer Board of Directors. The mission of the BBC is to enhance and maintain the natural and man-made beauty of the village of Bronxville, with an emphasis on the downtown business district.

Boulder Ledge Garden Club
Founded in 1966, the Boulder Ledge Garden Club is rooted in a mission to inspire a deeper appreciation and love for gardening and flower arranging. The club is dedicated to fostering and promoting interest and knowledge in gardening.
The Club maintains Bronxville’s Bicentennial Park and other civic gardens. In 2019–2020 the club raised $18,000 to replace trees in the village, reflecting its active role in community beautification. It also holds garden therapy projects and educational garden trips for members.

Bronxville Giving Garden
The Bronxville Giving Garden is a community-centered garden that donates organic produce to Eastchester Community Action Partnership in Tuckahoe and Community Service Associates in Mount Vernon. The garden is also a gathering place where school children and volunteers can discover the joy of tending plants and growing food.

Bronxville Green Committee
The Bronxville Green Committee is a volunteer organization that is part of the Village of Bronxville. It proposes and implements environmentally sustainable programs in our community.

Bronxville Boy Scouts
The village of Bronxville has a long tradition of scouting. “The troops and packs of Bronxville have maintained the finest scouting organizations and have taught the boys of the Bronxville area to be leaders and outstanding members of the local, national and global communities.”
