Letter to the Community in Support of Helen Knapp for Village Trustee and Bill Primps for Village Justice

Dear Fellow Resident,
Wednesday March 18 is election day in the Village of Bronxville. We have two impressive colleagues who are standing for re-election: Helen Knapp for Trustee, and William “Bill” Primps for Village Justice. The two of us could not be prouder to urge you to support these two outstanding colleagues.
Bill Primps has energetically and ably served Bronxville in several capacities for over 30 years. Bill served as counsel to the Zoning Board and then served as a Village Trustee from 1991 to 1998. Since being elected to the position of Village Justice in 2018, Bill has served the Village, and the surrounding community, with intelligence, compassion and integrity. While Bill is running unopposed in the election, we encourage you to show your support for all his hard work and his commitment to the Village Court.
We have had the distinct privilege of being Helen Knapp‘s colleague since September of 2020 when she first became a Village Trustee. On behalf of the Village Board, Helen has been the unofficial ambassador to the Bronxville School, the Bronxville Public Library, the Village Green Committee and the Chamber of Commerce. Her steadfast dedication to these organizations has inspired us all to focus more on their missions.
Helen grew up in Bronxville and is a proud graduate of the Bronxville School, as are her two daughters and even her father! She has a unique pulse on the Village and shares great reverence for its institutions and the preservation of Bronxville’s unique character.
Helen is a seasoned non-partisan, public servant whose only focus is what’s good for the Village, she is highly principled but not dogmatic. When it comes to fiscal matters in the Village, no one is more focused on the value derived from any incremental dollar spent than Helen; it’s not that she hates to see money spent – she hates to see money poorly spent. We all hold Helen in high esteem with admiration for her commitment, dedication, energy – not to mention her love of serving as a Trustee. She is a vital member of our governance team which has worked as a model of “local first” priority setting while conducting all with great civil discourse and collegiality. We could not think of a better colleague. Helen deserves our support, and we ask for yours as well.
Bill and Helen are friends and colleagues, but most importantly they are outstanding individuals who serve as exemplars of public and community service. In short, they are deserving of our, and hopefully your support on March 18.

Bronxville is a quaint village (one square mile) located just 16 miles north of midtown Manhattan (roughly 30 minutes on the train) and has a population of approximately 6,500. It is known as a premier community with an excellent public school (K-12) and easy access to Manhattan. Bronxville offers many amenities including an attractive business district, a hospital (Lawrence Hospital), public paddle and tennis courts, fine dining at local restaurants, two private country clubs and a community library.
While the earliest settlers of Bronxville date back to the first half of the 18th century, the history of the modern suburb of Bronxville began in 1890 when William Van Duzer Lawrence purchased a farm and commissioned the architect, William A. Bates, to design a planned community of houses for well-known artists and professionals that became a thriving art colony. This community, now called Lawrence Park, is listed on the National register of Historic Places and many of the homes still have artists’ studios. A neighborhood association within Lawrence Park called “The Hilltop Association” keeps this heritage alive with art shows and other events for neighbors.
Bronxville offers many charming neighborhoods as well as a variety of living options for residents including single family homes, town houses, cooperatives and condominiums. One of the chief benefits of living in “the village” is that your children can attend the Bronxville School.
The Bronxville postal zone (10708, known as “Bronxville PO”) includes the village of Bronxville as well as the Chester Heights section of Eastchester, parts of Tuckahoe and the Lawrence Park West, Cedar Knolls, Armour Villa and Longvale sections of Yonkers. Many of these areas have their own distinct character. For instance, the Armour Villa section has many historic homes and even has its own newsletter called “The Villa Voice” which reports on neighborhood news.
