Sept. 11, 2024
Dear Bronxville Families,
Thank you for your cooperation and patience this afternoon.
At approximately 1:26 pm, the Bronxville Police Department received information from a National Hotline reporting a potential bomb threat located outside of the school building. The Bronxville Police and School Leadership Team convened immediately to assess the threat while simultaneously implementing the appropriate protocols, which included putting the School in a Hold in Place.
Mutual aid from local jurisdictions including the Yonkers PD, Eastchester PD, Tuckahoe PD, Scarsdale PD and Westchester County Police, arrived at the School to assist Bronxville Police. K-9 Units swept the perimeter of the building, including vehicles in our parking lots and vehicles lining the surrounding streets.
As the Police Department obtained further information related to the threat it became necessary to transition from a Hold in Place to a staggered dismissal of grades 6-12 beginning at 2:35 pm, followed by a staggered dismissal of our Elementary School students on the field.
Following dismissal, K-9 units conducted a search of the entire school building out of an abundance of caution and no devices were located.
The Police Dept is actively investigating the source of the threat and will maintain an increased presence in and around our campus for the remainder of the week as an additional security measure to help reassure our students, staff, and the greater community.
As a result of our preliminary investigation, we do not believe, at this time, that the threat was connected to any current or former Bronxville students.
Events like this are fluid situations that require an immediate all hands on response. While we are sensitive to the need for parent and community notification, be assured the safety of our students, staff and emergency responders are our top priority and as soon as practical, we will communicate with you.
We appreciate our faculty and staff’s professionalism and calm demeanor, which helped reassure our students prior to and throughout dismissal. We are also grateful to our families, who with short notice facilitated an orderly and smooth dismissal. As always, we are grateful to our first responders, for their expertise and strong partnership.
Don’t hesitate to reach out to either one of us with any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Rachel L. Kelly, Ph.D. Chief Christopher Satriale
Superintendent Chief of Police

Bronxville is a quaint village (one square mile) located just 16 miles north of midtown Manhattan (roughly 30 minutes on the train) and has a population of approximately 6,500. It is known as a premier community with an excellent public school (K-12) and easy access to Manhattan. Bronxville offers many amenities including an attractive business district, a hospital (Lawrence Hospital), public paddle and tennis courts, fine dining at local restaurants, two private country clubs and a community library.
While the earliest settlers of Bronxville date back to the first half of the 18th century, the history of the modern suburb of Bronxville began in 1890 when William Van Duzer Lawrence purchased a farm and commissioned the architect, William A. Bates, to design a planned community of houses for well-known artists and professionals that became a thriving art colony. This community, now called Lawrence Park, is listed on the National register of Historic Places and many of the homes still have artists’ studios. A neighborhood association within Lawrence Park called “The Hilltop Association” keeps this heritage alive with art shows and other events for neighbors.
Bronxville offers many charming neighborhoods as well as a variety of living options for residents including single family homes, town houses, cooperatives and condominiums. One of the chief benefits of living in “the village” is that your children can attend the Bronxville School.
The Bronxville postal zone (10708, known as “Bronxville PO”) includes the village of Bronxville as well as the Chester Heights section of Eastchester, parts of Tuckahoe and the Lawrence Park West, Cedar Knolls, Armour Villa and Longvale sections of Yonkers. Many of these areas have their own distinct character. For instance, the Armour Villa section has many historic homes and even has its own newsletter called “The Villa Voice” which reports on neighborhood news.
