Concordia invites the community to celebrate the Hochs' achievement at its 33rd Annual Community Dinner on Wednesday, November 12, 2014. The dinner will be held in Schoenfeld Campus Center, beginning with cocktails at 6:15 pm, followed by dinner at 7:00 pm, and will include a special musical performance by Elizabeth Lim-Dutton. Mary and Jim first moved to Bronxville in 1989 before Jim's work took the family to London for six years. They returned to Bronxville in 2000, where their three children attended the Bronxville schools through eighth grade and studied music at Concordia Conservatory of Music & Art.

A Morehead Scholar, Mary graduated from the honors program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She earned her MBA from Harvard Business School, and her professional career focused on corporate finance and investment banking, first at Kidder Peabody and then Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette. Mary's extensive volunteer experience includes serving as a member of the village finance committee and the Junior League, co-president of the Eliza Corwin Frost Nursery School Parent Committee, and class parent and co-chair of both the music and chess club committees at The Bronxville School. She has served as a member of the alumni council and as an admissions representative and trustee of Phillips Academy, where she co-founded its London regional association and established a scholarship for the school. She has been a deacon and member of the consistory of The Reformed Church and has also served on its executive fundraising committee and education council. She also served on the parents' committees at Duke University and Williams College.

Jim graduated Phi Beta Kappa, magna cum laude, from Williams College and earned his MBA from Harvard Business School. He is a founding partner of Tailwind Capital, a leading private equity firm, and currently leads its business service practice. Actively involved in the private equity business for more than 25 years, Jim has served on the boards of 20 public and private companies and has participated in over $1.5 billion of private equity investments. Prior to joining Tailwind, Jim was managing director at Morgan Stanley, Morgan Stanley International, and Morgan Stanley Capital Partners, and a member of the Morgan Stanley Capital Partners investment committee. He has investment experience in a broad range of industries, including business services, media, communications, and general industrials. Jim also led Morgan Stanley Capital Partners' efforts in Europe, building a 15-member team of investment professionals. He has volunteered for Eastchester Youth Soccer, coaching both girls' and boys' recreational and travel teams. Jim is also an usher at The Reformed Church and has served with Mary on the parents' committees at Williams College and Duke University.

In addition to their passion for music, the Hochs are avid skiers and enjoy travel and art.

Bronxville Overview

Bronxville is a quaint village (one square mile) located just 16 miles north of midtown Manhattan (roughly 30 minutes on the train) and has a population of approximately 6,500. It is known as a premier community with an excellent public school (K-12) and easy access to Manhattan. Bronxville offers many amenities including an attractive business district, a hospital (Lawrence Hospital), public paddle and tennis courts, fine dining at local restaurants, two private country clubs and a community library.

While the earliest settlers of Bronxville date back to the first half of the 18th century, the history of the modern suburb of Bronxville began in 1890 when William Van Duzer Lawrence purchased a farm and commissioned the architect, William A. Bates, to design a planned community of houses for well-known artists and professionals that became a thriving art colony. This community, now called Lawrence Park, is listed on the National register of Historic Places and many of the homes still have artists’ studios. A neighborhood association within Lawrence Park called “The Hilltop Association” keeps this heritage alive with art shows and other events for neighbors.

Bronxville offers many charming neighborhoods as well as a variety of living options for residents including single family homes, town houses, cooperatives and condominiums. One of the chief benefits of living in “the village” is that your children can attend the Bronxville School.

The Bronxville postal zone (10708, known as “Bronxville PO”) includes the village of Bronxville as well as the Chester Heights section of Eastchester, parts of Tuckahoe and the Lawrence Park West, Cedar Knolls, Armour Villa and Longvale sections of Yonkers. Many of these areas have their own distinct character. For instance, the Armour Villa section has many historic homes and even has its own newsletter called “The Villa Voice” which reports on neighborhood news.
