Friday, May 13, 9:13 am, Palmer Avenue: There was a motor vehicle accident between two vehicles on Palmer Avenue. No injuries were reported. An accident report was completed.
Friday, May 13, 8:18 pm, Pondfield Road: Police Officer Martin Dentini charged a 56-year-old man from Mount Vernon with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the 3rd degree after he was stopped for having an improper license plate. His 2006 Nissan Sentra was impounded. He was processed and released from police headquarters pending his next court appearance.
Friday, May 13, 11:12 pm, Park Avenue: A homeowner on Park Avenue reported that a rock had been thrown through the window of a basement door. The report was made for informational purposes only; the homeowner did not wish to file criminal charges.
Sunday, May 15, 12:08 pm, Kraft Avenue: It was reported that a large piece of wood had been thrown through the window of a Jeep Wrangler parked in a driveway on Kraft Avenue overnight. The incident is being investigated.
Thursday, May 19, 9:19 am: A mother dropping off her child at school reported a suspicious male sleeping in a van in the school parking lot. Officers interviewed the male, who was a local overnight guest. He was issued a citation for a no-parking violation.
Saturday, May 21, 10:12 am, Palmer Avenue: Police Officer Lauralee Ulrich charged a 55-year-old man from the Bronx with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the 2nd degree and suspended registration after he was stopped for a license plate reader alarm indicating that the registration to the 1996 Dodge Ram he was operating had been suspended for no insurance. The man was processed and released on $110 cash bail pending his next court appearance.
Sunday, May 22, 1:19 pm, Masterton Road: A pedestrian flagged an officer down and reported that he had observed a male looking into vehicle windows. Officers canvassed the area and were unable to locate anyone matching the description. No vehicles were entered in the area.
Bronxville is a quaint village (one square mile) located just 16 miles north of midtown Manhattan (roughly 30 minutes on the train) and has a population of approximately 6,500. It is known as a premier community with an excellent public school (K-12) and easy access to Manhattan. Bronxville offers many amenities including an attractive business district, a hospital (Lawrence Hospital), public paddle and tennis courts, fine dining at local restaurants, two private country clubs and a community library.
While the earliest settlers of Bronxville date back to the first half of the 18th century, the history of the modern suburb of Bronxville began in 1890 when William Van Duzer Lawrence purchased a farm and commissioned the architect, William A. Bates, to design a planned community of houses for well-known artists and professionals that became a thriving art colony. This community, now called Lawrence Park, is listed on the National register of Historic Places and many of the homes still have artists’ studios. A neighborhood association within Lawrence Park called “The Hilltop Association” keeps this heritage alive with art shows and other events for neighbors.
Bronxville offers many charming neighborhoods as well as a variety of living options for residents including single family homes, town houses, cooperatives and condominiums. One of the chief benefits of living in “the village” is that your children can attend the Bronxville School.
The Bronxville postal zone (10708, known as “Bronxville PO”) includes the village of Bronxville as well as the Chester Heights section of Eastchester, parts of Tuckahoe and the Lawrence Park West, Cedar Knolls, Armour Villa and Longvale sections of Yonkers. Many of these areas have their own distinct character. For instance, the Armour Villa section has many historic homes and even has its own newsletter called “The Villa Voice” which reports on neighborhood news.
