Thursday, June 16, 10:44 am: A 50-year-old man from Mount Vernon was charged at police headquarters with public lewdness and exposure of a person. On May 26, a 66-year-old female victim reported that the man, who was sitting in his vehicle on Midland Avenue, asked her for directions, and when she looked inside the vehicle, he was masturbating. He was released on $5,000 cash bail pending his next court appearance.
Saturday, June 18, 11:27 am: Hospital security at NewYork-Presbyterian/Lawrence Hospital requested police officer assistance with an unruly patient. The patient left of his own accord upon officer arrival. No crime was committed.
Saturday, June 18, 3:55 pm: A leaf blower complaint on Beverly Road was made. The complaint was deemed unfounded.
Sunday, June 19, 3:53 pm: A resident on Locust Lane reported that sometime between Saturday afternoon on June 18 and Sunday evening, June 19, the residence had been entered. Numerous jewelry items and purses were stolen. The incident is being investigated.
Monday, June 20, 9:43 am: Bronxville School security requested police officer assistance with patrons who would not leave the football field. They left of their own accord. No crime was committed.
Monday, June 20, 10:27 am: A leaf blower complaint on Lake Avenue was made. The complaint was deemed unfounded.
Tuesday, June 21, 2:09 pm: Officers responded to a domestic disturbance. One subject was transported to NewYork-Presbyterian/Lawrence Hospital voluntarily for ingestion of an unidentified substance.
Wednesday, June 22, 9:17 am: On Pondfield Road, Bronxville Police Unit #34, while stopped at a red light in traffic, was struck by a Cadillac CTS operated by a 53-year-old female resident attempting to back out of an angled parking space. Damage was caused to the rear passenger bumper of the police vehicle. An accident report was completed. The driver of the Cadillac was issued a citation for unsafe backing and given an appearance ticket for damage to village-owned property.
Bronxville is a quaint village (one square mile) located just 16 miles north of midtown Manhattan (roughly 30 minutes on the train) and has a population of approximately 6,500. It is known as a premier community with an excellent public school (K-12) and easy access to Manhattan. Bronxville offers many amenities including an attractive business district, a hospital (Lawrence Hospital), public paddle and tennis courts, fine dining at local restaurants, two private country clubs and a community library.
While the earliest settlers of Bronxville date back to the first half of the 18th century, the history of the modern suburb of Bronxville began in 1890 when William Van Duzer Lawrence purchased a farm and commissioned the architect, William A. Bates, to design a planned community of houses for well-known artists and professionals that became a thriving art colony. This community, now called Lawrence Park, is listed on the National register of Historic Places and many of the homes still have artists’ studios. A neighborhood association within Lawrence Park called “The Hilltop Association” keeps this heritage alive with art shows and other events for neighbors.
Bronxville offers many charming neighborhoods as well as a variety of living options for residents including single family homes, town houses, cooperatives and condominiums. One of the chief benefits of living in “the village” is that your children can attend the Bronxville School.
The Bronxville postal zone (10708, known as “Bronxville PO”) includes the village of Bronxville as well as the Chester Heights section of Eastchester, parts of Tuckahoe and the Lawrence Park West, Cedar Knolls, Armour Villa and Longvale sections of Yonkers. Many of these areas have their own distinct character. For instance, the Armour Villa section has many historic homes and even has its own newsletter called “The Villa Voice” which reports on neighborhood news.
