Feb. 13, 2019: The following entries are from the Bronxville police blotter.
January 29, 2019, 11:36 am, Pondfield Road: An elderly female resident was targeted by an online computer scam asking for $3,000 in Google Play cards. A quick-thinking local bank employee intervened and advised the woman of the scam. No transaction was made.
January 29, 2019, 8:57 pm: Police responded to an anonymous call of a loud verbal dispute between family members. The responding officer was able to quell the argument and completed a domestic incident report.
February 3, 2019, 11:40 am, Avon Road: A 51-year-old man of New Rochelle was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the third degree, and suspended registration after an onboard license plate reader indicated to the officer that the registration to the 2012 Nissan Altima he was operating was suspended for an insurance lapse. The man was processed on scene and released pending his next court appearance; the Altima was impounded.
February 4, 2019, 11:25 am, Parkway Road: Police responded to a call of a suspicious male looking into driveways. The male was interviewed and released pending investigation.
February 6, 2019, 3:30 pm, Pondfield Road: A woman reported a male urinating on White Plains Road. Officers canvassed the area and were unable to locate the male.
February 8, 2019, 12:46 pm, Midland Avenue: A 47-year-old man of Mount Vernon was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the third degree after he was stopped for an inadequate brake light and an inquiry into his license revealed that his license was suspended for failing to pay a driver responsibility assessment. The man was processed and released on scene pending his next court appearance. The 2001 GMC he was operating was impounded.
February 9, 2019, 8:36 pm, Avon Road: A 60-year-old woman of Mount Vernon was arrested and charged with DWI. She refused to submit to a breathalyzer test. There was a one-car accident, causing damage to the property of a home on Avon. She was arraigned by Judge Primps and released on her own recognizance pending her next court appearance.

Bronxville is a quaint village (one square mile) located just 16 miles north of midtown Manhattan (roughly 30 minutes on the train) and has a population of approximately 6,500. It is known as a premier community with an excellent public school (K-12) and easy access to Manhattan. Bronxville offers many amenities including an attractive business district, a hospital (Lawrence Hospital), public paddle and tennis courts, fine dining at local restaurants, two private country clubs and a community library.
While the earliest settlers of Bronxville date back to the first half of the 18th century, the history of the modern suburb of Bronxville began in 1890 when William Van Duzer Lawrence purchased a farm and commissioned the architect, William A. Bates, to design a planned community of houses for well-known artists and professionals that became a thriving art colony. This community, now called Lawrence Park, is listed on the National register of Historic Places and many of the homes still have artists’ studios. A neighborhood association within Lawrence Park called “The Hilltop Association” keeps this heritage alive with art shows and other events for neighbors.
Bronxville offers many charming neighborhoods as well as a variety of living options for residents including single family homes, town houses, cooperatives and condominiums. One of the chief benefits of living in “the village” is that your children can attend the Bronxville School.
The Bronxville postal zone (10708, known as “Bronxville PO”) includes the village of Bronxville as well as the Chester Heights section of Eastchester, parts of Tuckahoe and the Lawrence Park West, Cedar Knolls, Armour Villa and Longvale sections of Yonkers. Many of these areas have their own distinct character. For instance, the Armour Villa section has many historic homes and even has its own newsletter called “The Villa Voice” which reports on neighborhood news.
