By Blaine Malefatto, Syntax

June 26, 2024: Bronxville Elementary School fifth graders celebrated a significant milestone, completing their elementary school days during a moving-up ceremony on June 20.

The class – who was applauded for their perseverance, dedication and achievements – took hold of their diplomas before an audience of friends, family, teachers and administrators.

Assistant Principal Anthony Vaglica welcomed the guests and honorees before student council representatives led the Pledge of Allegiance. The ceremony continued with the performance of the “Bronxville Song,” led by music teacher Marina Brown, and an art project dedication, followed by an address by Principal Rakiya Adams.

In her speech, Adams highlighted the students’ growth in critical thinking, intellectual curiosity and academic achievements, as well as their development as respectful, responsible and safe individuals.

“As you get ready to transition to middle school, embarking on a new chapter filled with excitement, challenges and endless opportunities, you will encounter new classrooms, meet new teachers and make new friends,” Adams said. “Rest assured; we have complete confidence in your readiness for this next step.”

Adams encouraged the students to hold on to the lessons learned, treasure friendships and embrace future opportunities. She also expressed gratitude to the parents, teachers, staff, PTA, school board and administration for their dedication and support.

“As you spread your wings and soar to new heights, remember that you will always have a home here at the elementary school,” Adams told the graduates. “We believe in you, we are incredibly proud of you, and we eagerly anticipate the remarkable contributions you will make to the world.”

The ceremony concluded with the fifth graders performing Shakira’s “Try Everything” song.
