Feb. 25, 2015: David Eisenhower, only grandson of General and President Dwight D. Eisenhower and son-in-law of President Richard Nixon, will give The Bronxville Historical Conservancy's 17th annual Brendan Gill Lecture on Friday evening, March 13, at 8:00 pm in the Reisinger Auditorium at Sarah Lawrence College.
The lecture, which is free and open to the public, will be followed by a reception.
Seventy years after World War II came to an end, Eisenhower will have insights into the role his grandfather played in that historic conflict. His book, Eisenhower: At War, 1943-1945, was both a New York Times best seller and a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in history. He is also the coauthor, with his wife, Julie Nixon Eisenhower, of Going Home to Glory, a memoir of life with his grandfather during the post-presidential years.
Author and historian David Eisenhower has been a director of the Institute for Public Service at the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania. He has also co-chaired the Foreign Policy Research Institute's Teaching Institute. A popular and engaging teacher, he received the Provost's Award for excellence in university teaching in 2003. He has lectured widely to audiences across the country on the presidency, foreign relations, and World War II.
As a gift to the community, the conservancy annually sponsors the Brendan Gill Lecture, honoring the memory of one of Bronxville's most renowned residents, the late Brendan Gill, who wrote for the New Yorker for more than 60 years and was a prominent advocate for the preservation of architecture and other visual arts. The conservancy is delighted to host David Eisenhower as its 17th speaker in this series.

Bronxville Public Library
The Bronxville Public Library traces its origins back to 1875, when it was a small lending library housed in a room attached to the “Bronxville Model School.” The Library was officially chartered in 1906 and moved into the Village Hall Building. The needs of the library grew with the town and, in 1942, a new standalone building was erected, which is where the Library is today. Over the years, the Library was renovated and expanded to meet the needs of the community.
The Library has wonderful resources for adults and children and offers a comfortable and relaxing environment. The Library also houses a fine art collection, consisting principally of Bronxville painters and sculptors.
The Library offers special events, art exhibitions, and programs for adults, young adults and children. All events are open to the public, unless otherwise indicated.
