Bronxville Adult School to Offer Fun Field Trips and Great Courses this Spring; Catalogue Now Available

By Irena Choi Stern, Member, Board of Trustees, Bronxville Adult School

Feb. 10, 2016:  Have you always wanted to appreciate opera and ballet, or perhaps the music of Lennon and McCartney is more your speed? Do you want to build your first website or blog? How about mastering the art of staging your home to increase its value?

These are only some of the courses featured in the blue-and-white Bronxville Adult School spring course catalogue, which arrived last week in the homes of most Bronxville residents.

Professional artists will teach everything from drawing basics to a new class in watercolor and multimedia, where students can learn to use watercolors to create monotypes and collages. A new offering will teach students how to make their own necklaces by stringing pearls and crystal beads along with a glass cabochon to create a stunning focal point.

Along with perennially popular exercise classes such as Zumba, Pilates, and yoga, the Bronxville Adult School will offer Fusion Fitness, an 11-week workout to tone and tighten beginners as well as advanced athletes, and Let's Move, a functional training class to build strength, mobility, and balance.

For beginners serious about learning golf or seasoned golfers seeking to perfect their swing, a new course taught by PGA tour instructor Mark Evershed and Kevin Chin of Lake Isle will enhance golf skills and take them to the next level. And Jessica Watts, director of racquets for the Village of Bronxville, welcomes beginners and intermediate tennis players to improve skills in a fun, social environment.

Field Trips:  School field trips tend to sell out quickly, so hurry and sign up for the spring excursions, which include a guided tour of the Neue Galerie, home of Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer 1 (aka The Woman in Gold) by Gustav Klimt, and the upcoming exhibition Munch and Expressionism, followed by lunch at Sarabeth's restaurant and a guided tour of the Cooper Hewitt museum. The walking tour Discovering Street Art: The Bushwick Collective will showcase the incredible realm of modern street art in a six-block area of the Bushwick neighborhood in Brooklyn.

Classes are conveniently scheduled weekdays, weeknights, and weekends this spring at the Bronxville Adult School. Bronxville Public Library

Bronxville Public Library

The Bronxville Public Library traces its origins back to 1875, when it was a small lending library housed in a room attached to the “Bronxville Model School.” The Library was officially chartered in 1906 and moved into the Village Hall Building. The needs of the library grew with the town and, in 1942, a new standalone building was erected, which is where the Library is today. Over the years, the Library was renovated and expanded to meet the needs of the community.

The Library has wonderful resources for adults and children and offers a comfortable and relaxing environment. The Library also houses a fine art collection, consisting principally of Bronxville painters and sculptors.

The Library offers special events, art exhibitions, and programs for adults, young adults and children.  All events are open to the public, unless otherwise indicated.
