Mar. 23, 2016: Concordia College is pleased to announce that Susanne Shoemaker, CEO and founder of Undercare, will give a presentation titled "The Story of a Startup: From Concept to Commercialization" at Concordia College's Business Breakfast on Tuesday, April 12.
Shoemaker founded Undercare after identifying a need for specialty undergarments for individuals with mobility impairment issues. She designs and manufactures the easy-on, easy-off patented specialty undergarments exclusively in the United States. Prior to launching Undercare, Shoemaker held teaching positions at various institutions and also served as an editorial proofreader for the New Yorker.
Shoemaker has received several awards, including the LANZA Award for Strength of Business Plan from the Women's Enterprise Development Center, and was named a top 10 finalist in the Small Business Administration's InnovativeHER competition. Shoemaker also participated in the IBM Mentorship program and the MasterCard Pro Bono Challenge, and she recently attended a Women and Innovation roundtable at the White House.
Shoemaker earned a BA in English from Georgetown University and an MFA in drawing from the New York Academy of Art.
Breakfast begins at 7:00 am in Concordia College's Krenz Academic Center, followed by the presentation at 7:30 am. Bronxville Public Library
The Bronxville Public Library traces its origins back to 1875, when it was a small lending library housed in a room attached to the “Bronxville Model School.” The Library was officially chartered in 1906 and moved into the Village Hall Building. The needs of the library grew with the town and, in 1942, a new standalone building was erected, which is where the Library is today. Over the years, the Library was renovated and expanded to meet the needs of the community.
The Library has wonderful resources for adults and children and offers a comfortable and relaxing environment. The Library also houses a fine art collection, consisting principally of Bronxville painters and sculptors.
The Library offers special events, art exhibitions, and programs for adults, young adults and children. All events are open to the public, unless otherwise indicated.
