Concordia College Announces Suspension of Men's and Women's Tennis Programs

Jul. 6, 2016: Concordia College announces the suspension of its men's and women's tennis programs while they undergo an evaluation.
After nearly a year and a half of intensive review and consultative deliberations involving academic affairs, student life, and athletics administrators, the regrettable decision was made that the college could not continue to sponsor the tennis programs as they were structured.
President Viji George and President-elect John Nunes were consulted in the decision-making process to suspend the programs while the college engages in further evaluation.
Athletic director Ivan Marquez remarked, "It is with the heaviest heart that we make this extremely hard decision, but one that we had to make for the best interest of our entire body of student-athletes and our athletic department."
The Concordia College New York men's and women's tennis teams boast seven consecutive CACC (Central Athletic Collegiate Conference) championships each and numerous NCAA national appearances, and they have been a source of great pride for the institution, faculty, and staff. However, faced with insufficient numbers of student-athletes to roster both teams within the new financial guidelines for the 2016-17 academic year, the decision to suspend sponsorship of the tennis programs needed to be made by July 1 to comply with NCAA requirements.
Marquez stated, "We are fully aware that this decision greatly impacts the lives our students, coaches, and their connection with our community. The most important step now is to assist these young women and men as they complete their educational experience at Concordia College."
The College Racquet Club, directed by Concordia's head tennis coach, Neil Tarangioli, will continue. Tarangioli and the assistant coach, Dan Rockhill, will step down as tennis coaches while the college evaluates the future of the men's and women's tennis programs.

Bronxville Public Library
The Bronxville Public Library traces its origins back to 1875, when it was a small lending library housed in a room attached to the “Bronxville Model School.” The Library was officially chartered in 1906 and moved into the Village Hall Building. The needs of the library grew with the town and, in 1942, a new standalone building was erected, which is where the Library is today. Over the years, the Library was renovated and expanded to meet the needs of the community.
The Library has wonderful resources for adults and children and offers a comfortable and relaxing environment. The Library also houses a fine art collection, consisting principally of Bronxville painters and sculptors.
The Library offers special events, art exhibitions, and programs for adults, young adults and children. All events are open to the public, unless otherwise indicated.
