Aug. 24, 2016:  New to Bronxville? A course in the Bronxville Adult School's fall/winter catalogue taught by Wendy Sigurdson and Tina Chrappa seeks to assist new families navigate life in Bronxville by identifying local resources. 

"This is a helpful class for anyone who is moving to or new to Bronxville," Sigurdson said. "We can help answer any questions regarding kids' activities, classes, gyms, preschools, and doctors. We will offer insight on neighborhood gems, restaurants, and great places around Bronxville." 

In addition to Brand New to Bronxville, the Bronxville Adult School (BAS) catalogue, which arrived in homes earlier this month, includes a trip to the William Louis-Dreyfus Foundation art collection, Walking the Street Art Scene tours in New York City, and the ever-popular cooking classes, as well as courses in arts and crafts, business and finance, computer skills, fitness, sports, gardening, and languages.

"Several classes were added after the catalogue was mailed, so the website has the most current and complete information about our offerings," said Celia Cuce, executive director of the Bronxville Adult School. "The catalogues are also available at the Bronxville Library or at our catalogue sponsor's office: Julia B. Fee/Sotheby's International Realty, 2 Park Place, Bronxville. They will soon also be available at most local libraries."

Priscilla Toomey, chair of the BAS board as the organization heads into its 75th anniversary year, has enrolled in several classes each term, from cooking to lectures on how best to use technology.

"As an enthusiast for lifelong learning, I encourage everyone to read through the new Bronxville Adult School fall/winter catalogue and sign up for classes, trips, and lectures," Toomey said. "It's a great opportunity to broaden your knowledge and have fun in the process. It's hard to imagine such a breadth of offerings so rich yet so close to home."

Bronxville resident Sissel McCarthy, director of the journalism program at Hunter College and a member of the BAS board, signed up for beginner paddle tennis lessons.

"One of the best things about the Bronxville Adult School is that it makes it easy and fun for everyone to be a lifelong learner," McCarthy said. "I'm honored and excited to be part of an organization that offers so many wonderful classes and local outings."

For those new to Bronxville, the Adult School is certainly one of the resources worth knowing, and Sigurdson and Chrappa would very likely tell you that in their course.

Classes are conveniently scheduled weekdays, weeknights, and weekends this fall at the Bronxville Adult School.
