Dr. Charles Little to Give Art Talk at OSilas Gallery on Jerusalem in the Middle Ages November 7

By Elizabeth Vranka, Executive Director, OSilas Gallery

Oct. 26, 2016:  Chuck Little, Longtime Bronxville resident and curator of medieval art and The Cloisters at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, will be giving an art talk in the OSilas Gallery on Monday, November 7, at 7:00 pm on the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s latest landmark exhibition Jerusalem 1000-1400:  Every People Under Heaven

Dr. Little will be discussing the critical role that the Holy City, sacred to the three Abrahamic faiths, played in shaping the art of the high Middle Ages.

As a specialist in the art of the Middle Ages, Dr. Little will be sharing his expertise and insights into this epic exhibition and particularly the role of Jerusalem as a formative and exciting artistic center.

“During the time period covered by this exhibition,” said Dr. Little, “Jerusalem was the center of the world and the artistic crossroads of three great religious traditions. The objects that the Met was able to include in the show tell the story of how this vibrant, holy, and often violent city influenced the art of the many peoples who inhabited Jerusalem at that time.”

Whether you are interested in history, religion, art, or the Middle East, this is a lecture that you will not want to miss.

Dr. Little and his wife, Nancy, have been residents of Bronxville since 1976. Dr. Little is an active member of The Reformed Church, where he has been an elder and deacon and has been involved in creating the Church’s arts and religion programming. He has been a member of the board of advisors for OSilas Gallery for several years and has served on the board of the Bronxville Adult School, helping to develop its arts-oriented programming.

The lecture is open to the public, but tickets are required. Tickets may be purchased at osilasgallery.org and are $45 ($40 for gallery members). Light refreshments will be provided.

Bronxville Public Library

Bronxville Public Library

The Bronxville Public Library traces its origins back to 1875, when it was a small lending library housed in a room attached to the “Bronxville Model School.” The Library was officially chartered in 1906 and moved into the Village Hall Building. The needs of the library grew with the town and, in 1942, a new standalone building was erected, which is where the Library is today. Over the years, the Library was renovated and expanded to meet the needs of the community.

The Library has wonderful resources for adults and children and offers a comfortable and relaxing environment. The Library also houses a fine art collection, consisting principally of Bronxville painters and sculptors.

The Library offers special events, art exhibitions, and programs for adults, young adults and children.  All events are open to the public, unless otherwise indicated.
