Sept. 25, 2024: The 5th Annual Mary B. Turino Art Show opens Oct 5th and runs through the 30th.
The series is named in honor of the late Mary Turino who was a longtime Bronxville resident and one of the original founders of the Bronxville Senior Citizens (BSC). She was also a former Director of the Bronxville Senior Citizens and she and her husband Bill were active members. Mary and Bill both dabbled with the brush and a very generous grant was awarded to the Bronxville Senior Citizens with the stipulation it be used in memory of Mary Turino.
This year's lecture is on October 20th at 2:00PM in the Yeager Room, with a reception to follow.
The guest lecturer is Rory Mulligan. I happen to be very familiar with his photography. He is ‘the baby’ of our 4 ‘kids’; born in Lawrence Hospital in 1984 and grew up in Bronxville.
Rory graduated from Reformed Church Nursery School, Saint Joseph School, Fordham Preparatory School, Fordham University Lincoln Center and received his MFA from Yale University. He lives in Hastings-on-Hudson and is an Assistant Teaching Professor of Art at Drew University in Madison, NJ. He also taught at Princeton last semester.
His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and is included in the permanent collections of the Philadelphia Museum of Art and Light Work.
Rory has been published by J&L Books, Blind Spot, MATTE, Soft Copy and the New York Times Magazine, among others. His writing has appeared in two Aperture books (The Photographer’s Playbook and Photo No-No’s). He has been an artist in residence at Light Work (Syracuse, NY) and LMCC’s Art Residency Program on Governor’s Island.
He has lectured at Sarah Lawrence College, Yale University, Princeton University, School of the Art Institute Chicago, and the International Center of Photography, among many others.
He currently has an exhibit in Grand Central Terminal’s East & West Dining Concourses titled “Auguries” which consists of 20 large and colorful photographs in lightboxes of birds which were taken in his back yard during COVID.
