Top Bronxville Sports Stories of 2016

Jan. 4, 2017: Some of the most popular sports stories from 2016 focused on the accomplishments of Bronxville athletes. Last year, Bronxville athletes competed at Olympic trials, in national championships, and in state competitions.

Bronxville School students, parents, and community members joined forces to support the Broncos for various community events, including homecoming. The homecoming story was a favorite with readers and included a photo gallery of games and various homecoming events.

For the first time in Bronxville School history, a Bronxville School student, Connor Daly, won the New York State Golf Championship, competing against the top 99 golfers in the state. Many other spring athletes were recognized for their outstanding achievements and were honored at the Bronxville High School Sports Awards Night.

Stories about former Bronxville athletes playing in college are always of interest to the Bronxville community. Many members of the Class of 2016 are competing at the college level in a variety of sports, including lacrosse, soccer, baseball, golf, swimming, and track. An especially popular story was about two former Bronxville lacrosse players. In the spring of 2016, Andrew Walsh and Brewster Warble competed against each other at the NCAA Lacrosse Championships.

It is hard to imagine, but three Bronxville athletes competed at the 2016 Olympic Trials, including runner Mary Cain, swimmer Patrick Conaton, and rhythmic gymnast Alisa Kano. Kano and her teammates qualified for the summer Olympics and represented the USA in Rio.

Bronxville Middle School and High School squash, established just a few short years ago, has become a popular program and has many followers on MyhometownBronxville. Many Broncos competed at the U.S. Junior Squash Championships.

Last but not least, two very different recreational sporting events drew a lot of attention from readers. Bronxville resident and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell's annual flag football game was a popular hit, and former Bronco Shannon Crawford’s win at the Disney Princess Half Marathon also garnered a lot of attention.
