Oct. 11, 2026: Bestselling author and historian and a featured contributor to Ken Burns’ documentary, The American Revolution, Nathaniel Philbrick will speak at the Bronxville School on Monday, November 2nd.
As the author of The American Revolution Series (Bunker Hill, Valiant Ambition and In the Hurricane’s Eye) and Travels with George: In Search of Washington and His Legacy, Mr. Philbrick is intimately familiar with our nation’s beginnings. He will discuss those perilous times with a talk entitled 250 Years Later: American Independence and the Advent of George Washington. The evening’s conversation is a gift to the community from the Bronxville Historical Conservancy (BHC) and will be presented free to the public.
Reservations for the lecture and tickets for the cocktail party (at 6 pm on the main floor of the Bronxville Public Library) are available at The Bronxville Historical Conservancy website.
BHC Co-Chair Suzanne Pratt Davis said about this special lecture, "As we celebrate our nation's 250th anniversary, there is no better way to honor that legacy than through the words of one of America's most celebrated historians. We are thrilled to welcome Nathaniel Philbrick to Bronxville, and grateful to partner with the Bronxville School to bring this special program to life." Co-Chair Mike Heraty added, “We’re delighted to partner with the Friends of the Bronxville Public Library for a cocktail party before the lecture.”
A longtime resident of Nantucket, Mr. Philbrick is an avid sailor whose children’s book, Revenge of the Whale: The True Story of the Whaleship Essex, recounts the 1820 sinking of the whaleship Essex by an enraged sperm whale and how the crew of young men survived against impossible odds. It is based on his bestselling adult book, In the Heart of the Sea. Mr. Philbrick’s newly released book is titled The Rush: California Gold, the Civil War, and the Making of the Modern World and is available at Periwinkle Books.
