Bronco Basketball Season Preview
Written by Tracy Tarry

Dec. 3, 2014: The Bronxville varsity basketball team began its regular season on Monday, December 1, by winning a non-league game at the Martin Luther King Jr. High School in Hastings. Though the Broncos remain in Class B this season, the league has been re-aligned, so the team will face some new opponents this year. However, Coach Brian Senior has included Dobbs Ferry, Tuckahoe, and Hastings on the team's non-league schedule so that the team will continue to play those traditional rivals. The Broncos' home opener is Wednesday, December 3, at 6:15 pm, against Dobbs.
The Broncos return ten players from last year's squad, including eight seniors. Playing the post will be senior Matt Huncke, who delighted the crowd at an inter-squad scrimmage last week by dunking after a tip-off. The Broncos also have both experience and depth at the guard position. Sophomore Matt Toal will be the primary ball handler and is also an excellent outside shooter. Senior guard Michael Crawford shares the point guard duties and sets the tone for the defense. Other key scorers include seniors Tyler Schultz and Charlie Tarry, along with returning freshman Alston Tarry and last year's leading JV scorer, Jack Reilly.
The Broncos are hoping for a continued high level of support from their fan base. Last year, the students came to games in themed costumes, carried oversized cut-out posters of local celebrities, and (respectfully) razzed the Broncos' opponents. Though former "Sixth Man" leader John Flannery has moved on to college, the crowd at last week's Bronco Madness indicated that the student section will earn the moniker of "Bronxville Zoo" once again this season.
