Feb. 25, 2015: On Wednesday, February 4, two Bronco athletes signed letters of intent to play Division 1 collegiate sports. Caitlin Fryer officially signed with the University of Miami to play soccer as a Miami Hurricane, and Steven Ircha committed to the University of Pennsylvania to play football as a Penn Quaker. At the signing ceremony, held in the Bronxville High School library, BHS administrators, as well as families, friends, and teammates, joined the two college recruits.
Both Fryer and Ircha received first-team all-state honors at the end of their senior seasons. Fryer, the top scorer for the Broncos, helped the team clinch the 2014 state championship. For her efforts, she was named the Section I, Class B Player of the Year and the New York State Sportswriters Association All-State Player of the Year.
"I'm so happy to be going to UMiami," said Fryer. "It's a dream come true. I'm also glad I was able to sign with one of my friends, and I look forward to next year."
Ircha, who played both defensive and offensive line, was the Section 1, Class C Lineman of the Year in 2014. He was a recipient of the Golden Dozen football award for academics and athletics and was chosen to play in Section 1's Exceptional Senior Bowl.
"I've had a lot of support from the Bronxville community, and I'm grateful to everyone," said Ircha. "I'm thrilled to be going to Penn and can't wait to keep playing the sport I love."
The Class of 2015 has six athletes who signed with Division 1 programs: Ircha, Fryer, and lacrosse players Ted Forst, Henry Grass, Liam Lynch, and Charlie Tarry.
