July 12, 2024: Thirteen Broncos competed in the New York State Outdoor Track and Field Championships last Friday and Saturday at Cicero North Syracuse High School. Nine members from the girls’ team and seven members from the boys’ team competed in multiple events including hurdles, long jump, steeplechase, and the 4x400m and 4x800m relays.
Wyatt Gravier has been outstanding since the beginning of the outdoor season. This spring he was awarded with All-League, All-Section and All-County honors, and now he has capped off his stellar season with a Federation Championship in the 110m hurdles. The Federation race includes all private and public schools across New York State. Gravier’s time in the 110mH Federation race was 14:05. He set the Bronxville School record (13.94) earlier in the season. Gravier also ran the 400mH placing 2nd in Division 2 in 55.21.
“I wasn’t expecting to win the Federation,” said Gravier. “As much as I was confident going into the race, it was really nerve-racking because I was seeded second. After the race when I looked up at the score board and saw my name pop up first, I just felt so relieved that all my hard work had paid off.”

The boys’ 4x400m relay team, Gravier, Spencer Martin, Javier Tomala-Reidel, and Davis Patterson, placed 4th in the D2 race in 3:24.73, setting a new Bronxville School record.
“With the 4x4 we were seeded 6th and came out with fourth place and a school record,” said Gravier. “It was all around a great race because of my teammates on the relay.”

The girls’ 4x400m relay team, Winiecki, sophomore Kara Kochansky, and freshmen Eva Mihova and Ella McCalla won a silver medal in D2 with a time of 4:01.17. They finished less than a second behind first-place Bayport-Blue Point who had a time of 4:00.42.

Also competing from the girls’ team was the 4x800m relay, Kara Kochansky, Caitlin Paisley, Finlay Rowan, and Emerson Dennis. They placed 22nd in the D2 race in 9:54.84.
For the boys, Davis Patterson placed 10th in the 400m dash (51.28), John Sekula placed 14th in the 400m hurdles (1:01.83), and Kieran McBride placed 21st in the 3000m Steeplechase (10:04.83).
The season continues later this week for some of the athletes who will go on to compete at Nationals.
Go Broncos.
