Girls’ Lacrosse, Boys’ Tennis, and Two Bronco Golfers Head to Sectional Finals; Boys’ Lacrosse Plays in Semifinals on Thursday

Boys Lacrosse
The boys’ lacrosse team advanced to the Class D Section 1 semifinals with a 10-3 win over Blind Brook on Monday. Scoring in that game were Jack Reilly (3G), Thomas Freeman (2G), Teddy Gramins (1G, 2A), Nick Martinelli (1G, 2A), and Brian Formato (1G, 1A). Luke Arrighi had 12 saves. Reilly, Martinelli, Gramins, Freeman, and Theo McMurray are all on LoHud’s list of top scorers in Section 1.
The No. 3 Broncos (11-6) will take on No. 2 Westlake (17-0) on Thursday at Westlake High School. In the other semifinal bracket, No. 1 Pleasantville will play No. 5 Haldane. Section 1 Class D is a powerhouse in New York, and all four of these teams are ranked top ten in the state by Laxnumbers with Pleasantville taking the No. 1 spot.
The Sectional Championship game will take place on May 28th at 4PM at Yorktown High School.
Girls’ Lacrosse
The No. 3 Broncos head to the Class D Sectional Championship after defeating No. 2 Pleasantville yesterday in a closely matched low-scoring game. They will play the winner of No. 1 Albertus Magnus/No. 4 Irvington in the Class D Sectional final on May 24th at 4PM at Lakeland High School.
The Broncos sailed through the quarterfinals on Saturday defeating No. 6 Pawling 19-4. Scoring in that game were Maddy Williams (3G, 1A), Rose Woolery (3G), Ellie Garofalo (3G), Linnea Hentschel (2G, 1A), Grace vanTienhoven (2G), Charlotte Murray (1G, 2A), Amy Villanueva (1G, 1A), Quinn Sheehan (1G), Claire Melchionni (1G), Kate Outcalt (1G), and Ava Toolan: (1G). Gabbi Bici had five saves and Michaela Doheny had one.
In the semifinal game against Pleasantville, the Broncos led 3-2 at the end of the first half and were up 5-3 in the middle of the third. The Panthers closed the gap to 5-4 by the end of the third and tied it up early in the fourth. The lead went back to the Broncos with 6:54 left in the game, and Bronxville was able to hold on for the 6-5 victory. It was a strong defensive effort on both sides.
The Bronxville girls have gone deep into the post season since 2017. They won the Class D State Championship in 2022 and were the NYS Class D runner-up last year.
Golf

Senior Captain Walker Liggitt and freshman Tommy Ruhanen competed in the first round of the Section 1 Golf Tournament on Monday at the Century Country Club in Purchase and will advance to the final round of 32 today. Ruhanen shot an 80 in Monday’s round and finished with a birdie on the 9th hole, his 18th of the season. Liggitt finished with an 82 and shot a 38 on the back nine. They will compete in the Sectional Finals today at Fenway Golf Club in Scarsdale. The New York State Championships will be held on June 2nd and 3rd in Elmira.
Tennis
Despite an injury-riddled season, the Bronxville boys’ tennis team will play in the Team Sectional Finals on Thursday. The No. 6 seed Broncos defeated No. 3 Briarcliff in the first round and No. 2 seed Byram Hills in the semifinals. In the 3-2 win over the Bobcats on May 16th, first singles player Patrick Kenny won 6-2, 6-0 and Max Monogenis and Rohan Bala picked up a 6-0, 6-0 victory at first doubles. In a very competitive match, second singles player Jackson Fino held on to a 7-5, 6-4 win to help the Broncos advance to the finals. Bronxville will face No. 1 Edgemont in the Section 1 Team Championship match on Thursday. The Broncos are the defending team champion.
