March 13, 2024" Winter sports have ended, and high school spring sports are just around the corner. The indoor track and field team finished up last week at Nationals with some noteworthy performances. The spring athletic teams are in the midst of preseason training, and opening games begin at the end of next week. The spring season for college teams is underway, and several former Broncos who are in their senior year are highlighted below.
Bronxville High School Indoor Track and Field
Nike Nationals, New York City
-Running at the Armory, Ella McCalla, Eva Mihova, Kara Kochansky, and Juliet Winiecki finished 9th in the 4x400m. Their time of 4:05.95 was a season best.
New Balance Nationals, Boston
-Wyatt Gravier capped off an incredible season with a huge personal best time of 8.30 in the 60m hurdles beating his previous time of 9.09. Gravier placed 52nd in the nation and has another year left to compete.
-The Sprint Medley Relay team of Javier Tomala-Reidel, Gamunu Withana, Davis Patterson, and Kieran McBride won their heat in 3:37.83 with an incredible finishing kick and placed 24th in the country.
-Freshman standout Grant Patterson set a new personal best record of 55.97 in the 400m.
-Seventh-grader Beatrice Hogue ran an 8.86 in the 60m dash and a 1:04.65 in the 400m dash.
Bronxville High School Spring Sports
-Tennis opens its spring season on Thursday at Rye. The boys’ tennis team won the Division 2 New York State Team Tennis Championship last year.
-Baseball opens Friday, March 22nd at home against North Salem. The Broncos won the League Championship last season and finished with a 19-4-1 record.
-The opening of the boys’ lacrosse season is still more than a week away, but the team will have a home scrimmage against Pelham on March 19th. They open their season at Yorktown on March 30th and will play their opening home game on April 2nd against Stepinac.
-Girls’ lacrosse will not start until the end of March when they play three games in five days including their season opener on March 26th against Yorktown and a home game against Nyack on the 28th. The Bronxville girls’ lacrosse program has been a force in Class D for many years. In 2022, the team won the Class D New York State Championship, and in 2023 finished as the state runner-up.
College News
-Liam Krall, Bronxville Class of 2020, is playing his fourth and final tennis season at SMU. Krall, who plays No. 3 singles for the Mustangs, won his opening match of the season at the University of Hawaii. With one month to go in the regular season, he has nine wins and five losses. Last summer Krall competed at the 2023 FISU World University Games in Chengdu, China. At the World University Games, he defeated the singles' tournament No. 1 overall seed in the round of 64 and advanced to the quarterfinals.
-2020 grad Spencer Dessart is playing baseball this spring at the University of Washington after having played at Middlebury College last year. Dessart was the game-winning pitcher on March 10th when Washington defeated Stanford 9-2. Dessart held the Cardinals to two runs on six hits over 4.2 innings and struck out five along the way.
-Nate Davis, Class of 2020, is playing his fourth year of lacrosse at Dartmouth. As a junior, he started in all 12 games and finished third in points and goals. He was also named second-team All-Ivy League. Dartmouth with a 2-3 record opened the 2024 season in mid-February with wins over Holy Cross and Siena. In each of those games, Davis scored two goals. The season continues until the end of April.
