Jan. 6, 2024: Athletes, coaches, and parents gathered in the High School Auditorium on December 6th to celebrate the success of the Bronxville High School sports teams. Athletic Council Co-Presidents Maddy Stupart, Connor O’Brien and Victoria McEnroe hosted the event and introduced Athletic Director Joe Haven to start the evening.
“We gather today to celebrate not just victories but dedication, passion, and resilience that define our student athletes,” said Haven. “Their journey marked by triumph and challenges is a testament to their character and the invaluable life lessons taught through sports.”
The Bronco teams demonstrated their dedication to their sport by winning League, Section and State Championships. The football team showed great resilience by winning the Class C Section 1 Championship after having a losing regular season. The girls on the tennis team showed great passion for their sport by winning the New York State Team Tennis Championship after being seeded at No. 12. In addition, Victoria McEnroe placed 4th in the Individual Tennis State Championship.
It takes a lot of dedication to stay committed and improve throughout a long season. The boys’ and girls’ cross country teams successfully competed at the Class C New York State Championships placing 2nd and 3rd, respectively, and Fiona Barr, who has been on the swim team for five years, was a two-time State qualifier this season.
Win or lose there is a lot to be gained by participating in sports. Athletic Director Haven emphasized the positive attributes of competing at the high school level.
“Let’s recognize the importance of camaraderie, respect for our athletes and our opponents and the shared joy that comes from the love of the game. “
