Oct. 16, 2025: The Bronxville Dog Park will be closed during the Bronxville Village flood mitigation project. Work is scheduled to commence in mid-October, and it is estimated that construction will last from nine months to one year.

 

The dog park is located on the east side of the Village. It is located just north of Alder Lane (which is Dusenberry Rd. extended) and just east of Crawford St.  There are houses located on the western side of the park (addresses on Dusenberry Rd. and Grove Lane), and there is a forest area just to the north of the dog park.

 

There are currently two groups that use the dog park. The first is dogs and their owners.

 

The dogs enjoy running around the park, and the Village has provided a trash receptacle for dog waste, which the Village periodically empties. There are several benches around the park where dog owners and others sit, relax and enjoy the scenery.

 

The second group are the gardeners, including nearby local residents and the Green Committee. There are several native/pollinator gardens on the perimeters of the park which are quite beautiful.

 

 

The Village of Bronxville in partnership with the Town of Eastchester is undertaking a flood mitigation project to address flooding in the Crawford Drainage Basin including the areas of Crawford Street, Alder Lane, Dusenberry Road, Middle Road and neighboring streets. 

 

Phase I is commencing this week and consists of regrading the Meadows Park, a.k.a. the Dog Park, along with the construction of open stormwater channels and detention areas to drain stormwater away from the surrounding neighborhoods into the stone channels in the Park before releasing the water back into the conveyance system farther down Crawford Street.

 

The pictures below show how water currently pools in the Park as well as on neighboring streets including in front of the Cottle Elementary School located at the intersection of Archer and Crawford.  The second picture shows the area to be improved.

 

 

 

In addition to removing existing below grade stormwater pipes (including the one that runs through the Park from the end of Middle Road to Crawford) new sanitary sewer lines will be installed below grade to replace existing ones.     

 

The improvements will not only redirect water from homes and streets but improve the functionality of the Park to ensure it properly drains following storm events.  The replacement of the sanitary sewer lines should help reduce sanitary sewer backups in neighboring homes.

 

The Village has been working closely with members of the Working Gardner’s to ensure that tree removal is limited, that trees are relocated to the extent possible and that a replanting plan compliments the existing plantings in the Park.

 

Construction will take approximately one year to complete and during this period (effective this week) the Park – extending from Archer to the wooded area at the northerly end of the Park will be closed.  Archer Place is also likely to be closed to through traffic during this period.

 

Patrons of the Park are encouraged to consider the use of the recently renovated Scout Field (accessible from Midland Avenue) as an alternative during this period.

 

Upon completion of the drainage improvements and additional landscaping the Park will be reopened to the public.
