Spring is Coming (Honest!) for the Bronxville Adult School

Feb. 12, 2014:  It may seem as if spring will never come, but a sure sign of winter's end is the arrival of the Bronxville Adult School's spring catalog, which should now be landing in local mailboxes. Take a look at all of the wonderful courses being offered and switch gears to spring.

Fitness:  This spring, the BAS is offering two new weekly fitness classes aimed at getting you fit and ready for summer sports and activities. Daytime exercisers will enjoy Get Fit with Rev Fit, in which trainer Steve Lee will combine functional training and high-intensity cardiovascular work for the ultimate in effective workouts. Our evening offering, Interval Training, a powerful regime for beginner and intermediate exercisers, will burn twice the calories in half the time.

For those of you who love to walk, the new Walking Workout takes walking to a new level as you learn the safe, effective, and fun way to energize your walking. And, of course, all of our perennial favorite fitness classes are still on the schedule, including classes in Zumba, yoga, weight training, and more.

Cooking:  All that exercise means that you can freely indulge in one of our cooking classes or restaurant tastings. Fabulous chefs Nancy Contessa and Denise Leemputte are back with special spring meals and much more. Excite your taste buds at new tapas restaurant Mambo 64 for a unique Cinco de Mayo celebration exclusively for BAS students. And if you enjoy the delicious food, Mambo 64 restaurateur Arlen Gargagliano will let you in on a few of her secrets in her class, Talking and Making Tapas.

Arts:  Spring is also a great time to enjoy the arts in their myriad forms. Jerrilynn Dodds will bring us another of her enthusiastically received lectures, this time one called Art and Architecture of Paris. Our music series with classical pianist Cristiana Pegoraro is all new this semester, as she brilliantly discusses (and performs) A Musical Journey from the Old World to the New. And if you saw the special award for Woody Allen at the Golden Globes, you'll remember that he was specifically noted for portrayals of women. This term, the BAS's film series will concentrate on his female muses in Woody's Women.

Many of these classes start in early March, so sign up today! You can register online or you can call the BAS office at 914-793-4435, Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to noon, to register by Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or check, or with any questions. Catalogs are available online, at your library, and in many local establishments, if you'd like to check out all of the other exciting classes in bridge, technology, languages, business, and much more happening this spring.
