Letter to the Editor: Chris Eldridge's Letter to Planning Board on Hospital Addition

July 6, 2011:  Editor's Note:  Below is a letter to the Bronxville Planning Board written by Christina J. Eldridge.  A copy was sent to MyhometownBronxville.com for publication.

Dear Members of the Planning Board,

I am writing in support of the proposed Lawrence Hospital Cancer Center.  I believe this is an important addition to the hospital.  It will mean that all the aspects in cancer care will be available at Lawrence Hospital.

The convenience of these resources in the village and across the street from the Alger Court apartment buildings will be extremely helpful to residents.  In addition the six new operating rooms will replace the sixty-year old rooms that are now inadequate under today's standards.  Construction will cause inconveniences but the results will be worth it.

I fear that our hospital will begin to lose doctors, nurses and other health care workers who will want to go where the facilities are up to 21st century standards. The hospital has improved dramatically over the past ten years.

I hope we don't lose the excellent staff we now have because of a failure to make two more very important improvements. To be able to receive the treatments offered today in Lawrence Hospital and not have to drive ten miles north or south to receive them, I believe is an enormous benefit and an asset to the community.

I am very concerned about the misinformation and exaggerations that are being distributed anonymously in Alger Court.  I hope the Planning Board is examining the proposal carefully and putting aside the inaccuracies and the emotionalism being expressed.

Thank you very much.

Sincerely yours,

Christina J. Eldridge
