Local COVID-19 News This Week; Schools in NYC Hotspot Zip Codes Close

By Staff

Oct. 7, 2020: This week, Governor Cuomo made two important announcements regarding hotspot Zip codes in New York State.

On Monday, he announced that New York is temporarily closing in-person learning in schools in hotspot Zip codes in New York City. Then, on Tuesday, he announced a new cluster action initiative to address COVID-19 hot spots in Brooklyn, Queens, Broome, Orange, and Rockland Counties.

The initiative includes taking "dramatic action" within the cluster and then also taking action in the area surrounding the cluster and in the "outlying communities."

The plan separates the clusters and outlying areas into red, orange, and yellow colored zones with specific restrictions for each zone. See the chart below.  This initiative has now gone into effect at different levels within the hot spot areas.
