Sarah Lawrence Professor Matthew Ellis to Discuss Israel's Cultural and Social Diversity Friday, November 13

By Judith Schwartzstein, Director of Public Affairs, Sarah Lawrence College

Nov. 4, 2015:  A lecture by Sarah Lawrence College history professor Matthew Ellis titled "Making Israel Home: Reflections on Israeli and Cultural and Social Diversity" will be presented by the Sarah Lawrence College Friends of the Library at 9:30 am on Friday, November 13, in Room 3 of the Marshall Field music building.

The program is the first of a new series, Coffee with the Professor, presented by the Friends of the Library. It will begin with a lecture at 9:30 am and will be followed by a Q&A session and coffee and will conclude by 11:00 am.

Matthew Ellis is the Christian A. Johnson Endeavor Foundation Chair in Middle Eastern Studies and International Affairs at Sarah Lawrence College. The program will engage participants in a discussion about the historical roots of Israel's cultural and social diversity--and what this perspective might contribute to possible solutions to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Christina Staudt, president of the group, said that it is an excellent portal into the intellectual life of the college. "I joined the college's Friends of the Esther Raushenbush Library as soon as I moved to Bronxville almost 40 years ago," she said. "Through the Friends we get access to brilliant professors and feel as though we are back in school, if only for a few hours."
