Broncos Win Four County Titles at the Westchester County Championships

Jan. 26, 2022: Bronxville had a strong showing at the Westchester County Indoor Track and Field Championships on Sunday. The Bronxville girls won County Championships in three individual events and one relay. The Class C Broncos girls, held their own among 35 schools, placing second overall with 70 points.

Freshman Maddy Williams had outstanding success at counties and won the 1500m in a season’s best time of 4:54.43. Another Bronxville freshman, Scarlett Kane, won the racewalk placing first in 8.22:61.  In the 600m, Maddy Stupart and teammate Hope Hershberg took the top two spots with Stupart placing first in 1:41:47 and Hershberg placing second in 1:41.95.  Milly Koenig placed second in the 300m with a time of 42.40, and fourth in the long jump in 15-3.5.

Williams, Stupart, Hershberg, and Koenig’s times at Counties qualified them for the Rising Stars Division at the New Balance Nationals. Nationals has not taken place since 2019 because of the pandemic but will be held this year in mid-March.

The Bronxville girls’ track team, always a powerhouse in the 4x800m relay, won the County Title with Williams, Hershberg, Katie O’Hare, and Ava Black. Their time of 10:15.85 was more than 20 seconds ahead of second-place Ursuline.  

The boys’ team had strong finishes in field events with seven top ten finishes.  Luke Stephens placed 3rd in the high jump in 5-06, and Max Dicker placed third in the pole vault (11-0).

It has been great for the indoor track and field teams to get back to The Armory. Last year, The Armory was being used as a vaccination site so there were no indoor meets.

The 4x400m and 4x800m Bronxville relay teams are scheduled to compete on Saturday morning at the 114th Millrose Games at The Armory. Stupart, Williams, O’Hare, and Black are the number 1 seed in the 4x800m, and Koenig, Stupart, Danielle Dragoni, and Caroline Ircha are seeded first in the Suburban Girls’ 4x400m.
