New Members Elected to Bronxville NPC

By Wendy Halley, Bronxville Non-Partisan Committee

June 22, 2022: The Bronxville Non-Partisan Committee ("NPC") was established in 1936 with the mission to assemble and vet potential nominees for the Bronxville School Board and ultimately nominate a slate of candidates to successfully serve the school.  The NPC meets regularly during the school year to identify and review potential candidates for nomination as school board trustees.  After reviewing the applications and interviewing applicants, the committee selects nominees in late March or early April and supports those nominees as candidates to run in the school district election, which occurs on the third Tuesday in May.

From June 2 through June 10, online elections were held to fill open seats on the NPC.

One new member in each of our seven districts was elected to serve a three-year term beginning July 1, 2022. In addition, in election district 20, one new member was elected to fill a vacancy because of a member's early departure.

The following candidates have been elected and will become members of the NPC on July 1, 2022:

Simone Kane (District 16, 3-Year Term)

Jamie Powell Schwartz (District 17, 3-Year Term)

Vincent McBride (District 18, 3-Year Term)

Alexandra Hoopes Remmel (District 19, 3-Year Term)

Tracey Di Brino (District 20, 3-Year Term)

Jose Manuel Rodriguez (District 20, 1-Year Term)

Anne Marie Hein Niogi (District 21 3-Year Term

Michael Girimonti (District 22, 3-Year Term)

After the election process had occurred, an additional current member, Jocelyn Angelone of District 16, announced her early retirement from the NPC effective June 30th.  Consistent with the NPC rules, Sandra Borducci, who received the second most votes in District 16, was appointed to fill the remaining 1-year of the member's unexpired term and will begin her term as of July 1, 2022.   We are thrilled to have all nine new members join the committee.

The NPC is also announcing its officers for the coming year:  Wendy Halley Chair; Chris O’Gorman, Vice Chair; Tatiana Castro-Taboas, Secretary and James Cherundolo, Treasurer.

Additionally, we want to thank the nine members of the committee who are rolling off this year: Ed Reilly (Chair), Jeff Hine (Vice Chair), Dean Vanderwarker (Treasurer), Nick Willoughby (Secretary), Beata Gocyk-Farber, Eleyna WhittinghamLee Huang, Anthony Mercando and Jocelyn Angelone.  These individuals generously donated their time and energy to ensuring that qualified candidates for school board trustee are nominated each year. Their service to the NPC and to the community is deeply appreciated.

Finally, we also want to thank all of the highly talented individuals who applied to the NPC and put themselves forward to serve on the Bronxville Board of Education this year.  We are grateful to live in such an engaged community.

The NPC will resume activity in the Fall when the committee will reconvene to begin soliciting applications for school trustee candidates to run in the school district election in May 2023.
