Washington Irving Boat Club: You Can't Beat The Sunsets

By Karen Talbot

Sept. 15, 2021: You can't beat the glorious sunsets at this casual dockside eatery…on the Hudson River opposite the Mario M. Cuomo (Tappan Zee Bridge) in Tarrytown.

The Washington Irving Boat Club is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner, serving local diners ad dockside boat owners as well.  The restaurant has lots of outdoor seating and a Tiki Bar.  The main dining room and a separate bar room are very spacious.  Service was  generally very good and the waitstaff was very attentive.

Weekly Specials include:  MARGARITA MONDAYS (and Tuesdays);  TACO TUESDAYS (and Mondays); and SLIDE INTO SLIDER WEDNESDAYS.  On Tuesdays you can choose from five Street Tacos:  Fried Oyster, Cajun Shrimp, Wild Mushroom, Crispy Fish and  Chicken.  On Wednesdays the Slider choices are:  Shrimp and Lobster Salad, Braided Short Ribs, Pulled Pork, Vegan, Chicken and Surf and Turf.

For STARTERS we had New England Clam Chowder…a bit too thick;  Classic Caesar Salad….quite good and Rueben Spring Rolls…..which were very good.

Next came ENTREES of Fish and Chips…..tasty Codfish that was moist and lightly beer battered, served over delicious French fries with house made tartar sauce;  Homemade Linguini with Fresh Clam sauce and a trio of Wild Mushroom Street Tacos.  I think another variety of mushrooms should have been used instead of Shitake….not very flavorful.

Washington Irving Boat Club also has Oysters, Clams and Shrimp from the RAW BAR and SANDWICHES with offerings of:  a Lobster Roll, Burger, Fish Sandwich, Grilled Cheese, Hot Dog and a Veggie Burger.

A Chocolate Lava Cake for DESSERT with Vanilla Ice Cream, Chocolate Sauce and Homemade Whipped Cream was a nice finishing touch!

You can book private events and they plan to be open all year.
