Magic Is in the Air at the Bronxville Adult School Spring Courses

Feb. 26, 2014:  Spring is always a magical time, but this spring brings some special magic to the Bronxville Adult School (BAS). Master Magician Richie Magic (yes, he changed his name) will offer three courses for budding magicians or for those who just want to know how those amazing tricks are done.

Richie, a lifelong magic aficionado, has recently opened Westchester's first magic store, Hocus Pocus, which is in Dobbs Ferry (with another opening soon in Scarsdale), and he is excited to introduce budding performers to the wonder of magic. Over the four-week course, students will learn the basics of magic tricks with cards, coins, ropes, and, according to Richie, will leave "with the knowledge to entertain, fool, mesmerize, and wow."

For a little something extra, Richie will also be offering two one-night classes in beginner juggling and balloon sculpting. Work on your hand-eye coordination as you attempt the juggling feats, or become the quintessential party performer with your balloon sculptures.

Of course, these classes are not the only spring magic at the BAS. If you're tired of winter's stormy blast, sign up for a trip to the Cloisters to see the beautiful Radiant Light exhibition of stained glass from Canterbury Cathedral, sure to be a glorious display of color and light. Or really enjoy spring's highlights with a visit to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden to see the cherry blossoms in dazzling bloom at one of the foremost viewing sites outside Japan.

You can bring some of spring's glory to your own garden with Katherine Sutton's Wake Up Your Garden or check out nature's splendor on the Bird Spotting Walk, a great opportunity to view and identify our local birds. Last year we saw over 200 species!

Perhaps as spring arrives you feel bitten by the spring-cleaning bug. Beyond Dust Bunnies, taught by expert organizer Andrew Mellen, provides the dos and don'ts so you can deep clean your spaces while preparing yourself for the rest of the year. Learn the best ways to deal with clutter, sensitive information, storm windows, and more so you can really enjoy spring!

All these, plus classes in bridge, food, languages, music, dance, technology, and more, are scheduled weekdays, weeknights, and weekends at the Bronxville Adult School.
