Sam Bright

By Kathleen Suss, Executive Director, Concordia Conservatory

May 25, 2022: The Bronxville Middle School Orchestra will perform a new work by Concordia Conservatory student Sam Bright entitled, “Moonlight in a Tunnel” on Wednesday, June 15 at 7:00 pm as part of their 2022 spring Concert.

Sam is 14 years old, studies composition and songwriting with Dr. Matt Van Brink at Concordia Conservatory, and is in the eighth grade at Bronxville Middle School.  Sam has been studying piano and composition at the Conservatory since age 6. His composition for solo piano “Sahar Aswad” won NYSSMA’s Call for Compositions in 2019 and was performed in Rochester at the NYSSMA 2019 winter conference. He plays contrabass in the Bronxville Middle School Orchestra and plays guitar with a band in Mamaroneck.

It has been a productive year for Sam Bright, who writes and performs in multiple musical genres. His song “Rock Train” will be performed by the Conservatory Rock Band; he collaborated with Conservatory songwriting student Nicholas Arakas on his pop song “Before”.

Wyeth Tvenge directs the orchestra and has been rehearsing “Moonlight in a Tunnel” with them throughout the year. He has given Sam the opportunity to lead and conduct rehearsals of his composition as well. Sam writes, “It's a strange feeling to be leading the orchestra – it’s definitely a new experience to conduct the orchestra instead of just playing in it.”
