May 1, 2019: The Bronxville Broncos Spirit Week 2019 was spectacular. Hosted by the Bronxville School Athletic Department and the Bronxville PTA Athletic Council, Bronxville Broncos fans were out in droves and the weather couldn’t have been better for the start of the week. Fans and athletes alike were wearing their Broncos blue-and-white colors and everyone was in the spirit of Spirit Week.

Fans packed the stands for every game, including the varsity baseball fan game on Tuesday, which raised $325 from a 50/50 raffle and a bake sale. Raffle proceeds went to Main Springs (formerly JBFC). In the stands for the game, Steve Malley proclaimed the fan appreciation day “the best fan day ever.” Steve’s son is Bronxville varsity baseball captain, Zip Malley. T-Shirts were given out to first 25 young fans and 25 middle and high schoolers in the stands. Varsity players met with youth fans and signed autographs after the game.

The girls' and boys' varsity lacrosse fan games on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively, raised money from the Broncos Barn & Grill. The girls' varsity lacrosse team donated $137 to the One Love Foundation in honor of Yeardley Love. The boys' varsity lacrosse team donated $101 to Autism Awareness. T-Shirts were given to the first 25 fans in the stands and young lacrosse players were in the stands and on the field with athletes after the games.

The Bronxville PTA Athletic Council gave out fun items to the teams to wish them luck. The varsity girls' and boys' golf teams were given Bronxville signature golf balls. The girls' varsity softball team got a case of Smartwater and sunflower seeds to wish them well for their spirit game in Tuckahoe. The mountain biking team was given Bronxville Broncos signature water bottles and granola bars for the Hudson Valley XC spirit competition and the boys' varsity tennis team was given Broncos blue sweatbands for good luck at its spirit match.

Spirit Week 2019 also offered opportunities for Bronxville Broncos to fulfill their commitment to the Bronxville Promise by engaging the world around them. Bronxville Broncos athletes met with third-grade elementary school students for their “meet the athlete” event to discuss meaningful moments in their athletic careers at Bronxville and the concepts of sportsmanship and teamwork. The tennis, mountain biking, and golf teams all helped build bicycles for the USO’s “Hearts to Home” bike build event supporting local military and their families for their many sacrifices. Over 50 bikes were built on Saturday in the Bronxville school cafeteria. The varsity track teams, which competed at the Penn Relays this week as well as the Gold Rush Invitational, will hold their annual elementary track and field clinic later in the spring as construction on the track comes to completion.

This past week was filled with Bronco spirit, service, and fun.

If you missed out on the fun, join us on Saturday, May 4, for the Second Annual Bronxville Broncos LaxFest 2019 on Hayes Field. See the Bronxville Athletics website and the article in this issue of MyhometownBronxville.
