Nov. 7, 2018:  This past Sunday, in the last official game played on the old turf at Chambers Field, the Bronxville Broncos Youth Football team completed an undefeated season, beating Pleasantville 32-8 to claim the Westchester Youth Football championship for the third time in four years. This year’s title was particularly special and marked the first time in program history that our young Broncos finished undefeated.

Evoking memories of the great NY Giants' defensive units of the 1980s, on October 21, our youth Broncos completed the regular season without giving up a touchdown, defeating the Valhalla Vikings 24-0. The Broncos finished the regular season 6-0 and entered the playoffs as the number-one seed in the WYFL.

On October 28, in the first round of those playoffs, the Broncos took on a very tough youth football team from White Plains and finally surrendered their first touchdown of the season. The Broncos scored three touchdowns of their own and prevailed 24-8 (at this age, extra-point kicks are worth two points and the Broncos have the best kicker in the league in Jarvis Chow, who was a perfect 3 for 3).

On a picture-perfect fall day, with the trees surrounding Chambers Field in full color, the Broncos took on an undefeated 7-0 team from Pleasantville. In an intense and hard-hitting first half, the Broncos finally broke through with less than one minute left in the half when Davis Patterson (6th grade) took it around left end for a touchdown, aided by some stellar blocking by fifth-graders Brian Formato and Thomas Freeman.

The Broncos started with the ball to begin the second half and, after what the team calls the Coach K Special, gained big yardage on the first play, and Sam Becker (6th grade) took a counter play to the house untouched for a 48-yard touchdown, making it 16-0 Broncos. The rout was on! Late in the third quarter, Patterson again took it around the left side for a 46-yard touchdown and a 24-0 lead. After Pleasantville finally reached the end zone early in the fourth quarter, the Broncos got the ball back, and Patterson once again scooted down the sideline for a 24-yard touchdown to end the scoring: Broncos 32, Pleasantville 8.

This year’s Broncos included sixth-graders Henry Frigon, Jack Kennedy, Will Mattson, Michael Knox, Max Devaney, Davis Patterson, James Halley, Kieran Patterson, Matthew McSherry, Jack Gangemi, Jack Preusse, Alex Napolitano, Sam Becker, Henry Vail, and Jarvis Chow and fifth-graders Brian Formato, Thomas Freeman, Fletcher van Tienhoven, James O’Shaughnessy, John Shah, Nicholas Londal, and Nicholas Martinelli. The Coaches were Bill Knox, Rob Freeman, Dan Olimpio, Sam Patterson, Chris Becker, and Charles Preusse.

Go Broncos!
