Junior League of Bronxville Celebrates 75 Years of Service & Sisterhood

By Victoria Thiessen, JLB Communications VP

April 12, 2023: The Junior League of Bronxville (JLB) celebrated its 75th Anniversary during a benefit held at the Bronxville Field Club on March 25.

True to the event’s theme, the evening was a "Mosaic of Members & Mission.”

Over 150 members and guests gathered to honor the impact the JLB has had over the decades within its service areas of Bronxville, Eastchester, Mount Vernon, Tuckahoe, and Yonkers.

The highlight of the evening was a presentation by 22 JLB presidents that were in attendance who shared a milestone or memory they were proud of from their time in the League.

The impressive roster of presidents and their term in office included:

Elinor Urstadt, 1970-1972
Nancy Dube Hand, 1981-1982
Patty Dohrenwend, 1984-1985
Nancy Beers-Nix, 1991-1992
Liza Near, 1995-1996
Jule Y. Flick Silvi, 1996-1997
Suzanne W. McCann, 2000-2001
Julie Meade, 2003-2004
Connie Moustakas, 2005-2006
Daryl Schroeder Lubin, 2006-2007
Andrea Bates, 2007-2008
Raquelle Frenchman, 2009-2010
Lisa Rao, 2011-2012
Amy Rutter Korb, 2013-2014
Sheridan Denfeld, 2015-2016
Mitzi Ambrose-Washington, 2016-2017
Julie McNally Daher, 2017-2018
Margaret Wang, 2018-2019
Deirdre Doheny, 2019-2020
Michelle Schoulder, 2020-2021
Danielle Spring, 2021-2022
and current president, Kristin Smith, 2022-2023.

Another special feature of the evening was the tasting of small plates with corresponding cocktails that were all inspired from the JLB’s cookbook that was released in celebration of the League’s 60th Anniversary, entitled “Beyond One Square Mile.” Those recipes had been contributed by members and for this event the Bronxville Field Club’s Executive Chef Daniel Neuroth put a modern twist on both the dishes and drinks.

Joern Tittel of event sponsor Bronxville Wines & Spirits served as both donor and auctioneer of the night’s live auction, which included experiences such as “Sailing with a Sommelier” and “Champagne Tasting for Twenty.”

Another auctioned item was a “Yankees Fan Box & Ball Bundle'' that included a Field MVP Suite Box to a Yankees game donated by law firm Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner LLP, along with a personalized baseball signed by Yankees center fielder and Bronxville native Harrison Bader.

Michelle Schoulder, Development Task Force Chair and past President in charge of the event, shared, “The evening was a true living timeline and testament to the impact women can have on their communities and one another when they work together.”

She was supported by Co-Chairs Andrea Bates and Autumn Foley, as well as a myriad of other volunteer-members that stepped up to mark this moment in time. Money raised through this celebration supports the JLB’s outreach efforts across its five service areas.

This includes, as examples, two monthly Mobile Food Pantries run in conjunction with Feeding Westchester; the JLB Joyful Closet, with partner Bundles of Joy, based in a Mount Vernon school that supports many homeless students; a monthly Book Nook after-school reading program at ECAP in Tuckahoe; and a number of other ongoing and ad hoc outreach projects that address local needs.
