Adrian East

Owner, Adrian East

Sep. 2, 2020: The boutique children’s store named after its owner, Adrian East, transports us to the world of children.

Adrian has perfected the art of using her time wisely over the 18+ years she has owned and managed Adrian East. During the COVID shut down, Adrian ticked off 422 items from her To-Do list. She then started and completed a three-month reconstruction of an Easthampton property she owns, which was substantially damaged in a fire last year.

But don’t be fooled into thinking Adrian is only a left-brain dynamo. She is equally adept at tapping into her creative side. Impressed with her house renovations and design, her contractor offered her other interior design projects. Did we forget to mention that she attended the New York School of Interior Design full time while running her store?

At her friends’ urging, Adrian has started writing a book about – what else – organizational tips! She labels her method RAMBO, which stands for Ritualize, Automate, Maintain, Bulk, and Organize.

Her tips range from ready-packed bags for travel to doing things in bulk for efficiency – i.e., host dinner parties over three back-to-back nights. Why? So you only have to do things once like polishing silver, arranging flowers, or preparing one meal and dividing it into thirds.

For busy BXV residents, Adrian is a left-brain/right-brain inspiration.

Bronxville Furriers

Bronxville Furrier Owner, Peter Miklakos

Established in 1926, Bronxville Furrier has had only a few owners. Today’s proprietor, Peter G. Miklakos, purchased the business in 2001.

Born in Greece, Peter remembers the exact day he came to the US. It was July 29, 1969. Eager to show his travel documents, he could not get the attention of immigration officials as all eyes were on a small black and white television screen as Neil Armstrong took his first steps on the moon. He sailed through Customs.

After studying geological engineering at the University of Arizona and then working on a 1,500-ton cargo ship in which his family owned a share, Peter came to NY to work on the manufacturing side of the fur business.

Fur coats represent “comfort, warmth and luxury” to his customers who are reluctant to part with cherished coats. Peter’s years on the manufacturing side provide him with expertise in repair and remodeling.

It’s not been a good year for Bronxville Furrier as the store was shuttered in April and May, which are prime fur storage months. Always interested in his customers, Peter missed the typical “pandemonium” and the quick customer catch-ups of those lost months. The silver lining is that as customers are slowly returning, he has the time for meaningful interaction.

Stay tuned after Labor Day for the sale of fur garments and Loro Piana cashmere Peter planned to hold in April.

Beer Noggin

Inside Beer Noggin

Beer Noggin has a carefully curated collection of craft beers. Owners Brendan Carroll and Doug Cedrone have cause for celebration as they just received 2020 Best of Westchester award for Best Beer Bar.

Beer Noggin is the kind of place where “everyone knows your name.” “Friend groups develop on bar stools,” notes Brendan.

A diverse crowd bonds over craft beer.

At Beer Noggin, beer aficionados choose from 12 beers on tap or 80 other locally sourced varieties. You can take out or order ahead for curbside pickup. When restrictions lift, you’ll be able to enjoy the hip pub-like ambiance.

Not a beer drinker? You can enjoy what Brendan calls “alternative fermentals” – wine, seltzer, and cider. You can also enjoy a bite from the menu or bring your own takeout.

For Brendan, craft beer is “exciting, delicious, fun, and fresh,” and Beer Noggin is about “the community of craft beer and being a good person.” We’ll drink to that!
