Letter to the Editor: Support Bronxville Pops and Sixty Wonderful Musicians

To the Editor:

Last night [July 9] was the first concert of the 40th season of the Bronxville Pops Concert Band. It was a great night. Sixty musicians came together to play in this wonderful and committed community band, led by Al Mingrone.

The musicians come from Westchester, Manhattan, Connecticut, and Long Island. The players are teachers, music teachers, bankers, lawyers, doctors, professional musicians, retirees, and more. There are parents and children who play together, teachers and students, there are even a grandfather, daughter, and granddaughter playing together. Some of the musicians were students of Al's from Bronxville High School. The ages of the band range from 13 to 80-something. There are old friends and new friends.

This group of musicians is a community within Bronxville. Community bands are almost extinct. The Bronxville Pops presents live music in front of Bronxville High School. People bring their lounge chairs and blankets and sit under the stars listening to American music.

The Bronxville Pops Concert Band is a 501(c)(3) organization. All donations are 100% tax deductible. If you'd like to keep live music alive, please make a donation and send it to PO Box 284, Bronxville, NY 10708. I love playing in this band. The next free concert is Wednesday, July 16, at 8:00 pm.

I hope to see you there,
