Letter to the Editor: Betsy Harding on DEC Approval of Brownfield Site

To the Editor:

May 4, 2016:  The DEC’s April 14 meeting on the Marbledale Road Brownfield site was quite dramatic. Anyone who wasn’t there can watch the replay by going to the Tuckahoe Village website.

It became clear at the meeting that although the DEC has declared the entire filled quarry area a “P” site (meaning the DEC will eventually investigate), the DEC intends to approve the cap and vent remediation plan for the Brownfield site in the middle of the quarry before any further testing is done.

The DEC officials present dismissed the possibility that the horribly contaminated groundwater at the proposed hotel site can carry contaminants off-site as it flows south/southwest toward Bronxville.

The comment period in the Brownfield proceeding has ended. Concerned citizens should now write to:

The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo
Governor of New York State
NYS State Capitol Building
Albany, NY 12224

and

County Executive Robert P. Astorino
900 Michaelian Building
148 Martine Avenue
White Plains, NY 10601

Please ask that the groundwater south/southwest of the hotel site and, in particular, at the Bronxville School be properly tested before the flood mitigation project at The Bronxville School begins.

Very truly yours,

Betsy Harding
Bronxville, New York
