Catherine Guimaraes, Bronxville Graduate of 1998, and Richard Hoggard Married September 27, 2014 PDF Print Email

Nov. 19, 2014:  Catherine Elizabeth Guimaraes and Staff Sgt. Richard Paul Hoggard were married on Saturday, September 27, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church on Fishers Island in New York. The Rev. Anthony J. DiMarco, a Roman Catholic priest, performed the ceremony.

The bride, 34, is keeping her name. She is a mathematics teacher at St. Andrew's Priory School, an all-girls private school in Honolulu. She graduated from Boston College and received a master's degree in intermediate math education from the City College of New York.

She is a daughter of Mary Beth Guimaraes and George G. Guimaraes of San Diego and Fishers Island. The bride's father is the president and chief executive of Project Concern International, a San Diego-based health care company that brings medications and clean water to developing countries. Her mother, who travels frequently between the two homes, is an administrative assistant in the special education department at the Fishers Island School, a public school there.

The groom, 32, is a staff sergeant in the Army, based at Schofield Barracks on Oahu in Hawaii.

He is the son of Beverly D. Carter-Humbertson of North Charleston, South Carolina, and Franklin D. Hoggard Jr. of Brandon, Florida. The groom's father retired as a master sergeant in the Air Force.

Courtenay Biehl Swasey, Former Bronxville Student, and Peter Murray Crawford Married September 27, 2014 PDF Print Email

Oct. 8, 2014:  Courtenay Biehl Swasey, daughter of Patricia Swasey of Greenwich, Connecticut, and J. Loring Swasey, Jr. of New York City, married Peter Murray Crawford, son of Mary Niblock Crawford of Darien, Connecticut, and Murray C. Crawford of Stuart, Florida. She is the step-daughter of Sharon Sager Swasey.

The September 27 wedding was performed by the Rev. Dr. James B. Lemler of Christ Church Greenwich and the Rev. Dr. James C. Zwernemann, pastor emeritus of Village Lutheran Church in Bronxville. The ceremony took place at Christ Church Greenwich. A reception immediately followed at the Indian Harbor Yacht Club.

The maid of honor was Ashley Prymas of New Canaan. Bridesmaids were Christina Childs of Darien, Tara Ann Franceschini of New York City, Dianna Lamarca of New York City, Kate Marinos of Rosedale, Katharine Mastellone of Rye, Christy Pandekakes of Bronxville, and Margaret Sevin of Bronxville. Flower girls were Grace Elizabeth Crawford of Highland Ranch, niece of the groom, Mary Evelyn Crawford of Highland Ranch, niece of the groom, Campbell Young Crawford of Norwalk, niece of the groom, and Julianna Karmilowicz of Rye, goddaughter of the bride. The ring bearer was William Joseph Crawford of Norwalk, nephew of the groom.

The best man was Jonathan Crawford of Darien, brother of the groom. Groomsmen were Gregory Crawford of Highlands Ranch, brother of the groom, William Crawford of Darien, brother of the groom, and Zebadiah Clarke of Norwalk.

The bride is a graduate of Miss Halls School in Pittsfield, MA. She earned a bachelor of arts degree from Roanoke College. She is an associate director of investments at the advertising agency OMD in New York City.

The groom graduated from New England Culinary Institute and received an associates of occupational studies degree in the culinary arts. He is the chef of cuisine at the New York Hospitality Group in White Plains.

The couple resides in Greenwich, Connecticut.

Hugh Leo Carey II, Bronxville Graduate Class of 2004, Marries Katherine Mary Gibson July 12, 2014 PDF Print Email

Sep. 3, 2014:  Katherine Mary Gibson, a daughter of Nancy Quick Gibson and Craig B. Gibson of Winchester, MA, was married on July 12 to Hugh Leo Carey II, a son of Pamela Pearce Williams of Palm Beach, FL, and Donald C. Carey of Bedford, NY. The Rev. Richard C. Messina, a Roman Catholic priest, performed the ceremony at St. Patrick's Church in Falmouth, MA.

Mrs. Carey, 26, is an associate advertising account manager for the physician portal of WebMD, a New York company that provides consumers with medical information. She graduated from Trinity College in Hartford. The bride's father is a Catholic chaplain at Lawrence General Hospital in Lawrence, MA. Her mother is a trustee of the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston and of Newton Country Day School in Newton, MA, from which the bride graduated.

Mr. Carey, 28, works in New York as a public-sector restructuring and bankruptcy consultant for Alvarez & Marsal, a consulting firm that specializes in advising financially troubled companies, and is a director of the corporation that operates the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York. He graduated from Bronxville High School, Class of 1997, and from Union College in Schenectady, NY.

The groom's mother retired as the owner of Serving Thyme, a catering company that was in Bronxville. His father is a senior vice president for sales and business development at Fidelity National Financial, a title insurance company, in New York. The groom is a stepson of Mary Anne Schmitt-Carey and of R. Richard Williams. The groom's paternal grandfather and namesake was the Democratic governor of New York from 1975 to 1982 and was a United States representative from 1961 to 1974. 

Samuel Johnson Keenan, Former Bronxville Student, and Katherine Elizabeth Gorman Married July 5, 2014 PDF Print Email

Jul. 16, 2014:  Katherine Elizabeth Gorman, formerly of Pelham Manor, was married on July 5 to Samuel Johnson Keenan, who attended The Bronxville School from 1994 to 2000. The wedding took place at the New York Athletic Club, overlooking Central Park in New York City. Father Michael Greco and Rabbi Gloria Milner officiated.

The bride's father, Matt W. Gorman, is a managing director of Credit Suisse and her mother, Lorri Gorman, is former mayor of Pelham Manor. The groom's father, Jeffrey J. Keenan, is president of Roark Capital Group in Atlanta and his mother, Claudia Keenan, is a historian and writer and author of Portrait of a Lighthouse School: Public Education in Bronxville, New York 1920-1960.

The bride was graduated from the University of Virginia and is employed by Bloomberg News. The groom, who was graduated from Denison University, was a senior analyst for Kinderhook Industries and is enrolled in Emory University Goizueta Business School.

The groom's grandparents, Gloria and Richard Magat, were residents of Westbourne for 30 years. Richard Magat is an occasional writer for MyhometownBronxville.

George Alexander Samoladas, Bronxville Class of '94, Marries Katherine Elise McDonald September 21 PDF Print Email


Oct. 9, 2013:  Katherine Elise McDonald, daughter of Karen Elise Salerno and Donald Ralph McDonald of Norwalk, Connecticut, was married on Saturday evening, September 21, to George Alexander Samoladas, the son of Vivi and Minos Samoladas of Bronxville, New York.

Judge Nicholas G. Garaufis of Federal District Court in Brooklyn officiated at the home of the bride's parents.

On Sunday, September 22, the couple took part in the religious ceremony at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in New Rochelle. The Rev. Nicholas Anctil, the presiding priest at the Church, performed that ceremony.

The bride, 30, is the online marketing director in Manhattan for Eataly, an Italian food and wine marketplace. She graduated cum laude from Boston College.

Her father is a sports anchor at New York 1, the cable news channel, and the host of The Last Word, a viewer call-in program. He works in Manhattan. Her mother owns a communications firm in Norwalk that bears her name.

The groom, 36, is a vice president in the hedge fund solutions group at the Blackstone Group, a Manhattan investment advisory firm. George was born and grew up in Bronxville and is a Bronxville High School graduate, Class of 1994. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and received an MBA from the Thunderbird School of Global Management in Glendale, Arizona.

His mother is the registrar of the public school system in Scarsdale. His father retired as the president of JB Martin Industrial Fabrics in New York.
