By Susan Miele, Executive Director, Bronxville Chamber of Commerce

Dec. 7, 2016:  Our Mayor's "Buy Bronxville" Call to Action

I'm thrilled with Mayor Mary Marvin for her annual appeal to the community to "buy Bronxville," which appeared in last week's MyhometownBronxville.com. Mayor Marvin--always a stalwart advocate for our business district--provides an irrefutable rationale for buying local. I hope you'll read this and share it with your friends and neighbors.

Bronxville Hometown Holiday

The second annual Bronxville Hometown Holiday was a big success! Numerous thank-yous are owed, as this event wouldn't have been possible without the efforts of many. For one, the transformation of 118 Kraft Avenue into Santa's Workshop owes in no small part to volunteers Michele MacMillan of Paws and Play Pet Resort, Bob Krause of Mrs. Morgan's Flower Shop, and Tammi Kane. The loans of needed props came from Mrs. Morgan's Flower Shop, Bow Tie Cinemas, Value Drugs, and The Flower Shop of Tryforos and Pernice Florist. Use of the store was graciously permitted by Admiral Real Estate Services

Event sponsors are NewYork-Presbyterian/Lawrence Hospital, Bronxville Auto Collision, Paws and Play Pet Resort, Mrs. Morgan's Flower Shop, and Admiral Real Estate Services. Additional thanks go to volunteers Pam Simpson and the Choristers, the Village of Bronxville, Bronxville Police, Bronxville DPW, the Village of Tuckahoe, Andy McMillan, George McKinnis, Joe Donaldson, Tim McGrath of Fred McGrath Funeral Home, and the Bronxville High School Life Skills students and teachers. We also thank the many Bronxville businesses that participated in the window-decorating contest and the PTA discount. Last but not least, the Chamber is grateful to have the support of the Bronxville PTA in our efforts to remind the community to support our local businesses and looks forward to future collaborations.

Village Decorations

This year you'll find new holiday decorations throughout the business district. On the east side, the Village of Bronxville has purchased lighted garlands to adorn the new light fixtures that were recently installed, as these are now wired for illumination. On the west side, you'll find fresh holiday wreaths that NewYork-Presbyterian/Lawrence Hospital generously donated to the community, purchased locally from Mrs. Morgan's Flower Shop. The Chamber thanks Bronxville DPW for hanging these decorations and these sponsors/providers for helping to provide holiday charm to our village!

Free Parking Days

The Village of Bronxville is offering two free parking dates this year as an added incentive to do your holiday buying in Bronxville! The remaining date is Saturday, December 24, when you can park for free in the Kraft Avenue lot, the Garden Avenue lot, and the Avalon lot from noon to 7:00 pm.

Honors and Accolades

A huge congratulations to NewYork-Presbyterian/Lawrence Hospital on the opening of its new $65M cancer center. I had the pleasure of attending the ribbon-cutting ceremony on November 21, along with assorted local and area dignitaries, to celebrate this momentous event. Read all about it on MyhometownBronxville.com.

Bronxville Chamber of Commerce Unveils New Holiday Décor in Business District PDF Print Email

alt

By Susan Miele, Executive Director, Bronxville Chamber of Commerce

Dec. 7, 2016:  The Bronxville Chamber of Commerce announces the installation of new holiday décor in the Bronxville business district just in time for this year's holiday shopping season.

New lighted garlands adorn the east side of town, courtesy of the Village of Bronxville, and fresh holiday wreaths can be found on the west side, courtesy of NewYork-Presbyterian/Lawrence Hospital.

The new lighted garlands were purchased by the Village of Bronxville this year to adorn the recently installed street lamps, which now allow electrical supply to the decorations.

Because the new light fixtures currently exist only on the east side, the west side has retained the traditional décor of be-ribboned fresh wreaths, supplied by Mrs. Morgan's Flower Shop of Parkway Road for many years, with hand-formed bows.

This is the first year that the wreaths have been funded by NewYork-Presbyterian/Lawrence Hospital.

"The Bronxville Chamber of Commerce is grateful to both the Village of Bronxville and NewYork-Presbyterian/Lawrence Hospital for providing funding for the holiday greenery," said Susan Miele, executive director of the Bronxville Chamber of Commerce. "This is another fine example of both parties' dedication to enhancing our community and keeping our downtown vibrant."

The Bronxville Department of Public Works provided the service of hanging the décor throughout the village.

Give Thanks in Bronxville

One thing I'm thankful for is that there's been an increased awareness in the community of the importance of buying local. Let's continue this trend and strive to do even better--especially as we head into the holiday season.

Patronize their businesses. Recommend them to others. How tempting it is, sometimes, to seek out these businesses when in need of a favor and then spend money elsewhere to save time or a few pennies. Bronxville businesses support the community. We need to sustain them. Please give them your business.

This Thanksgiving, let's be thankful that we live and work in Bronxville.

Shop for your Thanksgiving delicacies at The Bronxville Farmer's Market. The final market of the season will be on Saturday, November 19, between 8:30 am and 1:00 pm. Stone Place at Paxton Ave.

Mini's Prime Meats & Specialties has posted its Thanksgiving menu offering, not only the bird, but hors d'oeuvres, sides, pastas, and more. Alternatives to turkey include ham, goose, duck, and a long list of other entrees, and novel starters include filet mignon wrapped in bacon, mushroom risotto cakes, and edamame wontons. Stop in at 15 Park Place or call 914-779-1948.

Place your Thanksgiving order with Stillmeadow Gourmet. In addition to traditional offerings, examples of the less familiar include kale and quinoa salad, cranberry baked brie, and butternut squash soup. Pies are also available, as are "sandwich fixings" for the next day. All meats are hormone-, steroid-, and antibiotic-free.

Underhills Crossing will be open on Thanksgiving for dinner at your place or theirs. Thanksgiving Eve will be an event at the restaurant featuring live piano music and speakeasy cocktails. 74.5 Pondfield Road.

Bronxville Natural is now accepting turkey orders! Place your order at 86 Pondfield Road or call 914-779-3552.

Order your pies from Chantilly Patisserie by November 20. Apple, pumpkin, and pecan are available. To order: 914-771-9400. Located at 135 Parkway Road.

Order your Thanksgiving dinner from Lange's Deli. Selections include: whole roasted turkey, spiral ham, and more. Be on the lookout for their holiday menu or call 914-337-3354.

Plan ahead for your floral needs! Mrs. Morgan's Flower Shop and Tryforos & Pernice Florists carry beautiful flowers in rich fall hues. Order your arrangement or centerpiece early to have it ready and waiting for you on arrival!

Need the perfect wine to go with your Thanksgiving feast? Station Plaza Wine & Spirits and Bronxville Wines and Spirits can help recommend perfect pairings.

From the archives: Beer Noggin's recommendation for Thanksgiving beers was featured in Westchester magazine!

Womrath Bookshop has an assortment of inspiring cookbook selections to spark your Thanksgiving feast, as well as children's books and greeting cards. 76 Pondfield Rd.

Thanksgiving story craft will be offered on Thursday, November 17, in the children's room of the Bronxville Public Library. Ages 3 and up.

Also view the annual Chamber Thanksgiving photo album to browse what's in store for this holiday in Bronxville!

Jump Start on the Holidays

Need to get your family portrait taken for your holiday cards?  Adrian East has a large assortment of children's holiday attire to dress your little ones in high style. Peter C. New Member Welcome

The Chamber is pleased to welcome our newest member: Edwina Sulimirski Physical Therapy is a newly opened private physical therapy practice, conveniently located in the heart of Bronxville Village, providing expert one-on-one care to the local athletes, sporting clubs, schools, and general community of the Bronxville area. Musculoskeletal problems are assessed and treated by a postgraduate trained manual physical therapist with expert qualifications in treating sports and spinal pain. The clinic's aim is to not only relieve symptoms but to identify the cause of each patient's pain and apply treatment strategies to prevent future relapses.
