Fall Bronxville Athletes Honored at Sports Awards Evening PDF Print Email

By S. Quinn DeJoy and J. Murrer

Dec. 7, 2016:  Last week, high school administrators, coaches, and student-athletes gathered in the school's auditorium to honor both team and individual accomplishments.

Athletic Council presidents Beth Finley and Jack Reilly hosted the evening and introduced the teams and their coaches.

The varsity teams fared well this fall, winning league, sectional, and regional titles. Five Bronco teams won their respective league titles, and field hockey and girls' soccer won sectional championships. The field hockey team returned to the state semifinals for the third time in six years but ended its bid for a state championship with a 3-2 loss to Cazenovia.

Overall, 75 Broncos were given All-League recognition, ten athletes were awarded All-Section honors, and many were recognized with coaches' awards.

Field hockey seniors Mia Bettino, Ellie Briskin, and Sophie Kohlhoff were named to the Golden Dozen at the recent Section 1 field hockey dinner. The Golden Dozen award is given to twelve student-athletes in Section 1 in recognition of their athletic, academic, and extra-curricular accomplishments. It is the first time that three Bronxville students were named to this elite group of twelve.

The Bronxville girls' soccer team had a strong season, winning the Class B Sectional Championship. The soccer program hit a milestone this fall when Coach Don Cupertino won his 400th game. Two players who have had a big role in the Broncos' success are seniors Mason Warble and Natalie Kister. Warble and Kister were recently named to the Elite 12, which recognizes twelve Section 1 soccer players for their athletic, academic, and extra-curricular achievements.

#1 FH-Golden Dozen DATE_FORMAT_LC1
Congratulations to Mia Bettino, Ellie Briskin, Sophie Kohlhoff for being named Field Hockey Golden Dozen winners.
However, the article is incorrect in its statement that "this is the first time that three Bronxville students were named to this elite group of twelve" as in 2009 Brooke Gogel, Rachel Kim and Anne Longobardo were named to the Golden Dozen (in addition to all three being named to the All-State team).
Congratulations as well to Mason Warble and Natalie Kister for their election to the Elite 12 in soccer.
That this year Bronxville has five young women among the 24 in field hockey and girls' soccer honored by Section 1 for the combination of excellence in the classroom, on the field and in the community is a special accomplishment. Way to go girls!
