By Susan Miele, Executive Director, Bronxville Chamber of Commerce

Dec. 7, 2016:  Our Mayor's "Buy Bronxville" Call to Action

I'm thrilled with Mayor Mary Marvin for her annual appeal to the community to "buy Bronxville," which appeared in last week's MyhometownBronxville.com. Mayor Marvin--always a stalwart advocate for our business district--provides an irrefutable rationale for buying local. I hope you'll read this and share it with your friends and neighbors.

Bronxville Hometown Holiday

The second annual Bronxville Hometown Holiday was a big success! Numerous thank-yous are owed, as this event wouldn't have been possible without the efforts of many. For one, the transformation of 118 Kraft Avenue into Santa's Workshop owes in no small part to volunteers Michele MacMillan of Paws and Play Pet Resort, Bob Krause of Mrs. Morgan's Flower Shop, and Tammi Kane. The loans of needed props came from Mrs. Morgan's Flower Shop, Bow Tie Cinemas, Value Drugs, and The Flower Shop of Tryforos and Pernice Florist. Use of the store was graciously permitted by Admiral Real Estate Services

Event sponsors are NewYork-Presbyterian/Lawrence Hospital, Bronxville Auto Collision, Paws and Play Pet Resort, Mrs. Morgan's Flower Shop, and Admiral Real Estate Services. Additional thanks go to volunteers Pam Simpson and the Choristers, the Village of Bronxville, Bronxville Police, Bronxville DPW, the Village of Tuckahoe, Andy McMillan, George McKinnis, Joe Donaldson, Tim McGrath of Fred McGrath Funeral Home, and the Bronxville High School Life Skills students and teachers. We also thank the many Bronxville businesses that participated in the window-decorating contest and the PTA discount. Last but not least, the Chamber is grateful to have the support of the Bronxville PTA in our efforts to remind the community to support our local businesses and looks forward to future collaborations.

Village Decorations

This year you'll find new holiday decorations throughout the business district. On the east side, the Village of Bronxville has purchased lighted garlands to adorn the new light fixtures that were recently installed, as these are now wired for illumination. On the west side, you'll find fresh holiday wreaths that NewYork-Presbyterian/Lawrence Hospital generously donated to the community, purchased locally from Mrs. Morgan's Flower Shop. The Chamber thanks Bronxville DPW for hanging these decorations and these sponsors/providers for helping to provide holiday charm to our village!

Free Parking Days

The Village of Bronxville is offering two free parking dates this year as an added incentive to do your holiday buying in Bronxville! The remaining date is Saturday, December 24, when you can park for free in the Kraft Avenue lot, the Garden Avenue lot, and the Avalon lot from noon to 7:00 pm.

Holiday Roundup

Read on for the Chamber's guide to holiday shopping, feasting, and events in Bronxville. We've gotten the countdown started with a roundup of advent calendars. There's still much more to come, so follow us closely all month!

Decorating

Arthur Lange Inc can help you with your holiday décor! Call him for assistance with tree set-up, light hanging, and decorations. Take the risk and hassle out of decorating! 914-395-0471.

Yes, even the festive holiday décor in the windows at The Flower Shop of Tryforos and Pernice is for sale!

Stop by Mano A Mano to meet the new girl in town--Mademoiselle Bijoux. This glitzy femme adorns the store window and was hand-decorated over a nine-month period by owner Mario Grosso using 5,000 items. Who needs 5th Avenue windows? Gawk right here at all the glitz and glamour right here at home. 81 Pondfield Rd.

Check out the Chamber's holiday décor photo album! Many more images are still to come, but head there to get started.

Feasting

Mini's Prime Meats & Specialties has an extensive holiday menu available for pickup at the store on Park Place, including extensive selections of appetizers, pastas, and entrees. How about fresh goose? 914-779-1948. 15 Park Pl.

Dobbs & Bishop Fine Cheese now sells fondue kits at the shop with the perfect blend of Swiss alpine cheeses for a price of only $30. Included are gruyere, appenzeller, and Ementaler. Jazz up your holiday celebration!

Get your prosecco and holiday spirits in town at Station Plaza Wine & Spirits or Bronxville Wines and Spirits. Keep the spirit in Bronxville!

For your own excursions, book your airport transit with Eastchester Trip Service.

Supporting Good Causes

The daughters of Steve Ircha of Aegis Capital are once again organizing the Toys for Tots holiday drive in Bronxville, and several Chamber members have agreed to serve as collection sites. Please consider donating a new, unwrapped toy for a child from birth to age 18. Presents for teenage boys and girls are most needed. Bring your donations through December 24 to Aegis Capital Corp, 26 Paxton Avenue 2D; Drs. Kanganis & Minoli, 20 Studio Arcade; NewYork-Presbyterian/Lawrence Hospital, 55 Palmer Ave; People's United Bank, 111 Kraft Avenue; Value Drugs, 80 Pondfield Road; Bronxville Fitness Club, 72 Palmer Road; NewYork-Presbyterian/Lawrence Hospital, 55 Palmer Avenue; and Coldwell Banker Carlson, 105 Pondfield Road. All toys go to local charities, including Andrus Children's Center. Over 1,000 new toys were collected in Bronxville last year.

Events

'Tis the season for many holiday events, and the Chamber's online calendar is loaded like Santa's sack! Check there for trunk shows, performances, shopping events, and more. Below are just a few of the many highlights (plus some that have yet to be posted)…

Join Bronxville Wellness Sanctuary in celebrating its five-year anniversary in Bronxville at its annual client appreciation day on Saturday, December 10, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm! Enjoy complimentary chair massage, henna, glitter tattoos, and nibblies. Plus, enter the raffle to win $250 Sanctuary Bucks. The first five people to arrive will receive a gift bag. 14 Studio Arcade.

Join one of America's finest champions of folk music, Caroline Doctorow, daughter of renowned author E.L. Doctorow, for "An American Holiday in Song," an acoustic holiday concert on Saturday, December 10, at 3:00 pm in the Yeager Room at the Bronxville Public Library. The program includes standards, original holiday songs, and several instrumental works. Hosted by Friends of the Bronxville Public Library. A reception follows. Free!

A bunch of trunk shows are being offered this month by Toney Toni and the Gang (Miguel Ases jewelry and Klement scarves) and Citrine (Jewelry by Cari; Lauren Kessler Fine Jewelry; Ray Griffiths). View the schedule on the Chamber's calendar.

All are invited to attend the 102nd Annual Bronxville Village Christmas Pageant on Christmas Eve at 5:30 pm on the hillside of The Reformed Church of Bronxville at the corner of Pondfield Road and Midland Avenue. A community tradition since 1914, the Bronxville Village Christmas Pageant involves all local churches and ministers and a host of volunteers, and it is supported completely by donations from the community.

Honors and Accolades

A huge congratulations to NewYork-Presbyterian/Lawrence Hospital on the opening of its new $65M cancer center. I had the pleasure of attending the ribbon-cutting ceremony on November 21, along with assorted local and area dignitaries, to celebrate this momentous event. Read all about it on MyhometownBronxville.com.

This week's New York Times "On the Market" featured a beautiful Spanish revival listing of Alice Regan's of Bronxville NY Real Estate | Julia B. Fee Sotheby's International Realty.
