All Bronxville Turf Teams Reach Sectional Semifinals: See Photo Gallery PDF Print Email

By S. Quinn DeJoy and J. Murrer

Oct. 26, 2016:  The Bronxville girls' and boys' soccer teams and the field hockey team entered playoffs this week, and after successfully navigating the quarterfinals, all three teams are heading to the semifinal games. The football team starts playoffs on Saturday with a semifinal game against Dobbs Ferry. For photos of the quarterfinal games, click here.

Boys' soccer

The 12-6 Broncos received the No. 3 seed in Class B and finished second in their league behind a strong Rye Neck team. In the opening round at Chambers Field last Thursday, the Broncos defeated Westlake, 3-0, with goals by Jeb BurnellZach Zucker, and Harry Colvin, Jr. and assists from John Haims and Burnell. In the quarterfinals finals held on Monday, the Broncos faced a tough Pleasantville team. The No. 6 Panthers took a 1-0 lead in the first half, but the Broncos prevailed, winning the game late in the second half on an Alston Tarry goal with an assist from Burnell. Playoffs continue this week as the Broncos travel to No. 2 Hastings (15-1-1) on Wednesday at 3:00 pm. If the boys win, they will play in the sectional finals at 10:00 am on Saturday at Lakeland High School.

Girls' Soccer

Bronxville girls' soccer, the top-ranked Class B team in Section 1, is currently ranked No. 5 in the state. The girls received a bye in the opening round but defeated No. 9 Briarcliff in the quarterfinals yesterday, 4-1, with goals by Gabriel Amboss, Rachel Peacock, Catherine Faville, and Mason Warble. The Broncos will play at home in the semifinals against No. 4 Pleasantville on Thursday at 3:00 pm. If they win that game, they will play in the sectional finals at 6:15 pm on Sunday, October 30, at Yorktown High School.

Field Hockey

The Bronxville girls' field hockey team is the clear Class C favorite this fall. They have been dominant in Class C but have done well against much bigger schools, earning a No. 5 spot in the LoHud Power Rankings. After receiving a bye in the opening round, the girls were victorious in the quarterfinal game, shutting out Rye Neck, 8-0. Scoring for the Broncos were Mia Bettino (2), Andrea Shepard, Ellie Walsh, Hadley Barr, Ava Austi, Hannah Weirens, and Fiona Jones. The Broncos will play No. 4 North Salem on Friday at home in the Class C semifinals. The sectional finals will take place on Tuesday, November 1, in Brewster at 3:30 pm.

After a 26-5 loss to Woodlands last week in the final game of the regular season, this week the No. 3 Broncos enter the Class C semifinals with a game against No. 2 Dobbs Ferry on Saturday at 1:30 pm at Dobbs Ferry.

Go Broncos.
