May 7, 2025: Meet The Counseling Center’s newest therapist, Alexis De Braganca, LCSW-R.

What drew De Braganca to The Counseling Center, a non-profit that subsidizes mental health services in Westchester?  “I love the connectedness and sense of community within the staff and leadership at TCC,” explains De Braganca. “There are weekly meetings to discuss clinical issues, give support, obtain feedback and insights with a lively and distinct group of colleagues.”

A New York native, she was born in Queens, grew up in Rockland County and is now raising her three children—all under age 10–with her husband in Chappaqua. As you can imagine she is juggling a lot—as do many of her clients. There are tough days all around. Her advice: “You can start your day over at any time.”

This philosophy embraces flexibility, mindfulness, positivity, compassion and resilience. “So often we get into all or nothing, rigid thinking and miss the opportunity to see the silver linings,” she shares. ”Let’s choose to move closer towards the light even for a few moments instead of staying stuck for the rest of the day or longer.”

In her 18 years of clinical practice, De Braganca has specialized in treating mood disorders and addictions. To help her patients, she addresses the here-and-now but uses it as a way to attune historical patterns that may have led to the current situation. “It’s amazing to be a small part of one’s journey towards growth and recovery, whether it be from depression or anxiety to binge eating disorder or alcoholism.”

In addition to addiction, De Braganca also works with relationship issues, parenting challenges, and identifying and honoring one’s authentic self.
