Letter to Editor: Carolyn Martin on Adrienne Smith's Column on Brussels PDF Print Email

To the Editor:

Apr. 6, 2016:  Although Adrienne Smith's article about Brussels was discomfiting, and I wish more time and editing had taken place before it was submitted and published, the article itself was not nearly so offensive as the unsigned reactions to it.

Opinions without signatures are, as Adrienne has stated, "both cowardly and journalistically improper."

I couldn't agree more, and I do not understand why MyhometownBronxville persists in this unsound practice.

Just because the Internet fosters such behavior is no excuse.

Carolyn Martin
Former Bronxville resident

Editor's note:  MyhometownBronxville does not fact-check statements in letters to the editor, and the opinions do not necessarily reflect the thinking of its staff. Its objective in publishing letters to the editor is to give air to diverse thoughts and opinions of residents in the community.

I take greatest exception in the world to the comment from JasonBVX. I have just spent the past three hours trying to research this "Publius" character. Why are you tormenting readers with your sharp wit?

Having written one of the two letters, I take exception to this over reaction. I merely expressed disappointment and questioned the propriety of the article's sentiment being expressed right after such a vicious attack.

As to the custom of using pseudonyms, it has a long an glorious history. Hamilton, Madison, and Jay wrote a serious of articles defending the Constitution under the name of "Publius."
