Oct. 23, 2024: The Bronxville football team improved its record to 5-0 with a dominant win over Hendrick Hudson on October 13th, which was Senior Day for the Broncos.

The Broncos are competing in Class B this year, up from Class C last year, facing bigger schools and stronger opponents but having great success so far. MaxPreps has the Bronxville Broncos ranked #1 in Section 1’s Class B strong group of 14 teams, and Lohud has ranked the Broncos #7 in Section 1 for schools of all sizes.

The Bronco players were welcomed before the game with a pancake breakfast served up by senior parent Sam Patterson.  The boys happily wolfed down the pancakes, bacon, and sausage.

Also, in a new Bronco football tradition, the senior parents decorated school parking spots with chalk for each of the seniors, so they would have dedicated parking on game day.

To celebrate Senior Day, each of the 19 seniors were introduced on the field with their parents with each player giving their mom a bouquet of flowers. The seniors were introduced by the Broncos inimitable and entertaining announcer Tom Curran, also a senior parent.

The well-fed Broncos looked like a stampede in the first quarter. On Hendrick Hudson’s first possession after kickoff, the Broncos defensive line forced a quarterback fumble leading to a scoop and score by speedy Bronco junior Brian Formato.  On Hendrick Hudson’s second possession, a quick three and out forced by the stalwart Broncos’ defense led to a punt to the Bronco senior Davis Patterson, which he returned for an immediate touchdown.  By the end of the first quarter, the score was 20-0.

In the second quarter, junior tight end Walker Moore snagged a quick pass over the middle by sophomore quarterback Theo McMurray and rambled into the end zone for a 33-yard touchdown.  Extra points from kicks were added by the dream team of Brady Dolan snapping, Desi Heathwood holding, and Henry Frigon kicking. By halftime the score was 34-0.

In the second half, sophomore Jackson Crystal got in the action and ran for a Bronco touchdown, resulting in a final score of 40-0.

The Broncos’ defense has smothered opponents and only yielded 33 points in five games this season.

“Our defense has been very strong this year. It’s a team effort, everyone is playing aggressively, and we have some great players.  Our coaches are doing a great job scouting the other teams and devising an effective game plan to thwart their offense. We just have to go out there, be physical and execute on it,” commented Senior Captain Wyatt Gravier, who forced a fumble that was recovered by the Broncos, preventing a potential touchdown.

Fellow Senior Captain Henry Frigon added “We’ve got a strong senior class, we’ve been playing together since 6th grade, and we’ve been working hard to improve every year.  Every game we go into it with a mindset that we are the underdogs and have to prove it on the field.”

In their final home game of the regular season, the Broncos will play Edgemont/Blind Brook at home on Saturday October 26th at 1:30pm.
